RAM 22 #1 Posted July 4, 2020 Hi, Name here is Ron. Been a member for few years but not active in discussions mostly lurking and reading past posts. I am the proud owner of three Wheel Horse tractors a 310-8, 315-8 and 414-8. I have owned other tractors over the years but find WH the best - easy to work on, reliable and capable. But I'm preaching to the choir! I am currently working on few things with hitches and will post some pictures soon. I would like to own a hydro WH some day also. Maybe I can trade my remaining non WH for one? At any rate I glad to be part of this community and I hope I can provide some help to others with my minimal knowledge someday. Just a quick tip. I was recently having trouble with the 310 fuel pump. I took the cheap route and ordered a $20 pump online. It did work one time and that was it... Then decided to try Taryl's advice on his Youtube channel and go with a vacuum pump. Worked beautifully! Don't be afraid to give it a try if you ever need one for an old magnum engine. Also I have a question: What do people use use to clean their casting and frames and such? I used to use WD but lately have been using penetrating oil like PB Blaster, Kroil or Fluid Film. I use windex on the tin or sometimes soap and water. Ron

RAM 22 #5 Posted July 5, 2020 Thanks the welcomes. I do have a product (degreaser) called Super Clean. Maybe I should try that (similar to purple Power). I wonder what is best for the paint? I thought an oil based product would help prevent rust.
Tractorhead 9,064 #6 Posted July 5, 2020 back to Like the idea of using a Vacuum fuel pump instead a electric fuel pump. No need for electric on common things. 👍
RAM 22 #7 Posted July 5, 2020 Yes I had to make a blanking plate to cover the hole where the mechanical pump was. This was drilled and tapped for 1/8" NPT fitting. After that just ran the pulse line from the Briggs fuel pump along with in and out fuel lines and it started right up after little cranking. I'll try to take a picture later. 2
RAM 22 #8 Posted July 5, 2020 Hello, Here are some pictures of my 310-8 and also the new vacuum fuel pump. It does seem that the the engine needs to turn over a little longer than I am used to but it starts and runs fine. Tractor needs to be cleaned a little more but all my machines are workers. No show pieces yet... Ron

Pullstart 62,790 #10 Posted July 7, 2020 @RAM! @dells68 did similar with a vacuum pump and a tapped plate too I believe!
