Mt Cutler adventure

Mt Cutler is a great little walk 2 hills over from our own.

Today we went up the face as usual then took a new way down.

Part of the return trip is a mile or so on these old rail tracks.

The switch at the old station is still here

 

 

 

Cut granite culvert for a mountain runoff stream.

 

This type of super thick tree growth is characteristic of a regrowth after a forest fire.

There was a devastating one here back in 1947.

The larger, hardier trees will eventually move back in. Sometimes that takes decades to hundreds of years.

 

 

The mountain in the middle is Pleasant mountain. Home of Shawnee Peak ski area.

Tough to see but waaaaay off in the purple mountains distance is Mt Washington. Still some snow in the ravines.

Bridge goes over the Saco River in East Hiram village. Route 113/5 (the bridge) is intersected by RT 117 (heading away from viewpoint) on left

 

 

View to the east. On the far right of the hilltop in view there's a fire tower. That's on Peaked Mountain, also in South Hiram

Beautiful views and beautiful country.  No need to wear a face mask out in that fresh air.   Some of that hike looks pretty steep.   I guess your knees are in better shape than mine, in spite of the knee brace.  Thanks for the pictures.
