John2189 445 #1 Posted July 4, 2020 What’s the best way to keep and preserve the patina?
ebinmaine 67,271 #2 Posted July 4, 2020 Haven't tried it myself... I've been told pressure washer then boiled linseed oil. Looking forward to seeing other responses.
John2189 445 #3 Posted July 4, 2020 Yea I’d rather see them as they are. But restored one look nice too
D_Mac 8,593 #4 Posted July 4, 2020 I wash them down good then I use what @ebinmaine said. I rubbed it all down with boiled linseed oil a few times. Looks good and any water will bead right off it. I used it on my Speedanza.
WHNJ701 4,165 #5 Posted July 4, 2020 be careful with linseed oil, the rags catch fire very easy, there are many techniques on here, a light scuff and Johnsons paste wax works well, lately I use drain oil on rag/brush in the sun on hot day and let it bake in. actually doing it this weekend on a case tractor, very pleased with the results

cschannuth 3,816 #7 Posted July 4, 2020 (edited) I don’t know if it’s the best way but I used 0000 steel wool and Windex to do a good deep final cleaning on my 606 roller and then I shot it with several coats of matte clearcoat. I like it because it has a realistic look that’s not too shiny but protects the remaining finish and doesn’t attract dust or dirt. It still looks like it did after several years. The Tuul Crib 7,336 #8 Posted July 4, 2020 W d 40 400 grit to level surface then linseed oil is good. I prefer a clear coat of lacquer after thoroughly cleaning.
