Carburetor Gasket / Plastic spacer

Ok, so whats the deal with the 5/16 black plastic spacer on my M12..do I need it ? and use two gaskets, one one each side of the plastic spacer. What is its purpose ? Thanks again and HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY TO EVERYONE !!!

Many automotive applications for carb. spacers Had to use one on my street rod to prevent the gas from boiling out of the carb. at shutdown.

Edelbrock heat insulator gaskets are designed to help prevent fuel percolation in Performer series carburetors exposed to extreme underhood temperatures. They are available in both open and ported styles, and come complete with extended-length carburetor studs.

Yes it's needed.  I bought a new one from Reardon Briggs.  It came as a spacer with a gasket glued to each side of it.  As others have said it stops thermal transfer between the engine and carb body.

Just buy the spacer.  It should come with the gaskets already glued on.

what do they call it ? Carb gasket?  Those guys seem to have a hard time finding the smallest things without make...model....serial...date of birth....last 4 SS number...

I think it is listed as a spacer.  Somewhere in the description it states that it includes gaskets.  I didn't save the package and I don't have the part number.  Besides it was for a M16S.
