mucking out the pig pens

Recommended Posts

I had great fun today!

After messing about with the hedge I volunteered the wheelhorse to help the Kubota muck out the pig pens.

Marie dragged the straw and pig poo out into the lane with the Kubota and I pushed it outside to be loaded into the trailer.

Traction was an issue with the big pile early on, before the video was taken. The wheels would spin, but it never felt like there was an amount that couldn't be pushed if traction could be found.

I have added no weight at all yet to this machine, but even when the wheels spin up you could usually take a run at it and get some fairly large chunks moving.

I got into the pens as well but the blade kept riding up on top of the hay so went back to pushing instead.

We managed to halve the time it normally takes for the job, and the little horse was impressive in its versatility today 😁

That's my last bit of fun, back to work for two weeks in the morning.

WHX??

Would chains be the answer to the traction issue? Looks to be no worse than pushing wet sloppy snow over here?

Is it true they say all the meat around a pig's @$$ is pork?!?!?

Yeah it wouldn't take a lot to get more grip. The concrete has cross hatching cut into it, but the pig waste is slippery stuff.

I have some steel weights to weld onto some sort of holder for the front attachment - be close to 40kg as it's a solid axle of one of the old trailers. The tyres on my other horse are water filled, might swap them over and see if that helps.

Pigs have fat asses that's for sure, the ones in this building are having the boar put onto them, then they will be back outside in the fields for a few months before having piglets.

Yeah the ammonia is pretty strong, it usually takes me a couple of days to get it out of my nose after spending a few hours in the shed - especially as we disturb it all!

I guess it's like pushing a lot of yellow snow....

Only two things of a pig are of no use.  It's squeal and the curl in its tail.  :handgestures-thumbup:

I've heard that you can use the tail to grease the frying pan, never tried it though! Bob

This thread started out really "crappy" and a "waste" ... but I learned what to do with a pigs tail if I ever find one...

With the tires sticking out beyond the fenders, I wouldn't want to do much spinning in that stuff...
