Was trying to think where you put the JB weld Richard but now I get it. Very carefully try to wiggle out those retainers. They do look corroded in but might be savable & won't hurt to try.   New valves and springs should be in the kit.

I put a "cheap " Chinese fuel pump on my 312 H and it lasted about 2 hours....2 weeks worth of mowing. I went the electric route,,,just finished it today and mowed without any issues.

I have seen videos on YouTube about that conversion.  It seems to work well. My neighbors 1983 GT 1142 uses that same pump and it starts better than my Kohler's.  Bill

it worked, well I think it did, but a myriad of other issues - made me doubt it...  which may even go right back to the original issue why I thought the pump was shot!!!

 

here is a small 1/4" thick piece of aluminium with a 1/4 barbed nipple, screwed in. Due to my other challenges - I think it worked well, though not sure what happens if the vacuum tube fills with oil???

May want to elevate the pump slightly so any oil accumulation gas a drain path.

the pump itself does that by design, however you need both push pull on the diaphragm - thats how it works, so stopping the airflow one way would mean it never charges back up.

Based on everything I have seen, I don't think that will be a problem.  If it is I will mount it in a different spot.  Dad used it to mow tonight and said it worked great.

Unless the pump is damaged by the oil, would it matter? The pressure will pulse as well against oil as air. I might try this as well. Liking the angle iron approach for mounting.

theoretically it will fill with oil....  however it is a vacuum pump, so should never have oil in the suction tube...

 

I bought some clear tube to try with mine just to see!

 

Also thought of mounting it just above the outlet, so any oil will drain back.

My dad said his tractor started fine today. If there is oil in the pulse line, it's not causing any problems. He's very happy.  The pump only cost $25.87 from our local dealer versus $100 plus for a Kohler pump.  Bill

JB weld won't hold up against gas. It will turn lose in a few years.

Sorry my mistake.  The local dealers are much higher.  Pat's small engine has them for $119 if I remember correctly.

I'm having real trouble with kohler pulse pumps right now and would pay you to make me a couple of those brackets to do a conversion!

Same here Mike with both styles and I went for years with nary an issue! 

Somewhere I thought you can buy a little blank off plate for the pump hole with a barbed nipple in it already for doing this.

Yea you can, and I think I have a junk 10hp kohler that has one on. The nice thing about his bracket though is that the pump mounts on it.

I didn't realize hew expensive the rebuild kits were.  Essentially same price as facet posiflo made in USA....
