CCW 1,310 #2 Posted June 28, 2020 EB, I have a flat lot and still use boxes. Much easier to create and control good growing soil.Currently I have two 4x8 beds with plans to double this next spring. Steve, here is a view of the rock garden from the deck on the side of the house looking down. A lot of this stuff hasn't opened yet. There's a rose, hens and chickens, frog bellies, big yellow whatchamacallit, pansies, torch lily, yellow daisy, phlox in medium and large, also some stuff the neighbor gave us. Black eyed suzie's, wild buttercups that have already gone by. In the lower part which is farthest away from the camera there is a bunch of various lilies. Orange daylilies, yellow will bloom later. Yesterday she began to harvest some of the purple beans. We are still getting a few of each type of pea. Vurge 158 #16 Posted August 19, 2021 We have some relatives in New Hampshire and I'm always amazed at what people can do with rocky soil. I'm fortunate to have flat land and deep soil. I used to grow in boxes, but that was too restrictive. Two years ago I went to planting in the ground and using landscaping fabric and drip to reduce my weeds. It has been working great!
