5 Rib Front Tires

Recommended Posts

RJ Hamner

I put a set of Deestone 5 rib tires on the front of my Raider 12.

I had bought a set of Ag tires for the rear and thought it would give it the “Tractor” look

I have noticed that it steers a whole lot easier now. :D
I am starting to look for new tires for the 416-8 that’s in the final stages of completion.
So..... I am going to ask the question.... Anybody else use the 5 ribs on the front of your tractors??:scratchead:

Just asking and NOT for a friend:happy-jumpgreen:

Simplicity 9020 with tri-ribbed fronts is much easier steering than my Alice Chalmers 720 which has the wide turf tires. I also believe the ribbed tires give the tractor a much tighter turning circle.

Five-rib tires are used mostly on zero turn mowers because they have to pivot easily.   If you expect to ever put a snow plow on your tractor, the five ribs will allow the tractor to be pushed sideways.   I have three rib tires on two of mine, and they steer more easily than the turf tires, but they hold a straight line when I plow because the deep tread digs in when the snow tries to push the tractor sideways.   Depends on what you're going to use the tractor for.

I put  400 x  8 Tri Ribs on my 312-8 on narrow rims. I really like them as it steers easy.

I have a slightly different style of 5 ribs on one of mine.

Do the tri ribs cut the turf when turning sharp while mowing?

I can’t comment on tri ribs. But the 5 ribs do not.

I’ve never seen a mark in the ground, unless I’m plowing the garden or the like.
