Is this a new tool / toy for you or do you have some experience painting?

I have experience but still a new toy. Nothing crazy. It’s a Wagner 3000 airless sprayer. Works great with latex or oil. Planned on getting it for the house anyway.

ive never used this majic brand but they have a primer, paint and clear as well as a catalyst.

Well it took an acetylene torch a breaker bar and the entire family, but I got the hubs off. The black one slid off easily, must of been replaced recently. But the red one wouldn't pop until the bitter end. I had to dead load it to the ceiling joist. Little Sal had a blast though.

hubs can be a bear to remove.

Here is an idea that works well for hub removal. Once you have the hub under tension a few hard blows along the axle part of the hub (not the flange) can be helpful.

Bottle jack would have been nice. The issue was not having an immovable object to anchor the rear to. Nevertheless their off. New seals should be here next week.

I have some experience with majic brand, never through an airless though. Just El cheapo $50 regular gun. I painted a tractor and a truck. Used generic paint thinner and then majic clear over the top. Not so great. Worked decent on tractor, honestly if it was my truck I had painted I'd redo it. But my buddy was happy with it.

I learned some things and the last project I did I used majic again. But with the matching harderner and thinner and primer. Directions to a tee. No clear coat

Very impressed, considering I'm not a paint guy.

I also brushed the back wheels and the paint was very forgiving in case you need to touch up or miss a piece.

Painting tip, use thin coat of vasoline on the tires you didn't dismount. Forget the tape.

And without that harderner, the majic stuff will fade if left parked outside. Even with all the clear that first tractor and buddy's truck are not what they were.

Those colors are Ford red/safety red. And Light Ford grey( not very grey)

That looks nice! The Majic looks like a PITA. 24hrs between coats or big problems. I read a lot of threads where things went bad but looks like mostly user error. This stuff should lay flat and cure hard as a rock so I’ll be patient. I bought the reducer and hardener. Also got the primer for the rest of the parts. Hopefully their isn’t an issue spraying the parts already primed with rustoleum.

Should stick fine to the Rust-Oleum.

I waited about an hour between coats. Then let dry overnight and wetsanded. I drug it out and tried to take my time. One weekend of primer and one or 2 of color

Yea, looks like a lot of time. I’m going to build a makeshift booth an hang everything. Try to stage and prep as efficiently as possible. Wish I knew a powder coater who worked for free

I'm too far to help. But my neighbor has a booth. Told me to buy the paint and help. So that's as close to free as you get. I have not done anything yet tho.

:text-yeahthat:    I have had very good results when using their hardener and thinner. Without the hardener it takes a week to dry and has a lot less gloss.

Good tip but you left out one step, the tires should be laying flat on the floor when sprayed. If they are standing up the Vaseline will tend to make any overspray run back down onto the rim.

I haven't tried them standing up. Interesting...

Oh and be easy on that stuff. After I used half jar on front tires, guy who told me that said he did 4 semitruck tires and had leftover .

As much as I used was a royal pain. I think..think I got the last residue off last weekend with purple power,a yr later

Well I got the axle seals from wheelhorsepartsandmore. They are half the width of the originals. I contacted them about it and they said they will work fine. They probably will but I thought I’d check with you guys.

I have confidence in Lowell's knowledge.

I can see that as being an advantage if it didn't sit in the same groove as the other seal. You'd have a fresh sealing axle surface.

Here is a source for the wider ones.  Lowell's seals will probably be fine but this is what I have used.

I had a pretty worn axle, put one on and it still leaked.  Doubled them up and it cured that problem.

Well, thanks to the previous owner I got a great deal on the original motor with all the sheet metal, wiring harness and gauges. There is 1500 hours on the meter. I havent had a minute lately but I’m anxious to bench start it! Not exactly sure how to do that either. Nevertheless I’m stoked!

Little Sal had a blast though.

Until the hub 'popped' and he cracked himself in the head with the ratchet handle!

Big Sal, I know you're not around anymore... but let this stand as a warning to others about safety!  (Hey Kev!)

If you are gonna pull then an 8 speed would be a better setup.  That hydro is desirable in that tractor as it is geared faster for commercial use. That was the reason why I wanted it when I got it was the rear end.

Is the transaxle/ rear end the same for a hydro and an 8-speed ?

Ok, got an old school charger. 10A for 2 days and it’s good as new. Definitely a pain to wire brush the crevices but I am very happy with the result. 3 more to go.

Electrolysis is great!  Only downside is that black slimy 5h1t that it leaves behind that needs scrubbing to get off.

Still, better than trying to clean them up with a flapper wheel!

Only thing better would probably be blasting with the media of your choice.

My wheels definitely look white and not the pewter color I see on most of the 418s. Am I missing something? I’d like to stick with the original colors though I like the off white wheels better.

I did gloss white on both my Wheel Horses… I just like gloss white more on tractors. But if it was a Deere I would do the yellow

The gears in an 8 speed can take a fair amount of HP and transfer more input speed thereby making a faster tractor.

The Hydro will only allow a certain amount of power through the hydraulic pump.

Differential and axle appears similar to me but I've only had one Hydro apart.

I have a 1996 520H Wheel Horse for sale.  The tractor has just over 800 hours on it.  It comes with a 48 inch deck.  The deck is a 1995 and has over 1,500 hours on it, as it came brand new with my 312-8 that I sold several years ago.  This 520-H has the swept front axle so it can handle a 60 inch deck.  I just replaced the battery and the deck belt this summer.  The engine is a 20HP Onan and it starts right up but requires the full choke.  The transmission is an Eaton 1100-062, hydrostatic.  The deck is in rough shape but the spindles appear to be in good working order.  The right rear tire has some cracking.  The original operator's manual for the 520H is included, as is the original operating and maintenance instructions for the deck, plus the installation instructions for the deck.  Also included is a new PTO belt and several miscellaneous deck wheels and rollers.  Additional pictures available upon request.  Asking $500.

I have to change some o-rings on my GT-1800.  What size o-rings do I need for the ORB-5 and ORB-6 fittings.  Also, does anyone make a ORB-5 to JIC-6 fitting?  Looking for both straight and 45 degree fittings.  Thanks.

This is my commando I just picked up awhile ago. Looks like it was-tried to be a puller. Got it with no motor but have a strong 14 to install. Does anyone know how to preserve the sheet metal but keep the “rust look”. Will be using this unit for small farm chores. I really like the look currently with the rust and wear, kinda tells a story I suppose but I don’t want to leave the Tin “unprotected”. I’ve heard of guys lightly rubbing down the metal with used motor oil?  Any thoughts, comments, concerns are highly appreciated!

I have a 418-c  worked great plowing over the winter.. but now is having no power pulling a load fwd.
replaced the fluid.. the old fluid didn't look bad. feels a littls better., but still significant loss of power and high pitched whine coming out of the hydro.  the lift works fine

is there a repair manual our there for the hydro?  Is there a way to reverse flush the system?   I hear sometimes the hoses crack internally and clog things up.
