What model is this.

Afternoon everybody 😁

 

Found this for sale and curious to know the model. As usual the seller has limited information available.

 

It seems to have tiny front wheels compared to my C-125's which made me wonder if it's a slightly lesser version.

 

He is also not keen on selling without a laser l95 as part of the deal - I just got rid of one of those last week and don't want another one!

Looks like a 312 eight. Is there still a sticker or tag under the seat on the left side that should tell you some information?

I agree with Randy.

Can't tell from the pictures but it might have six inch front wheels.

 

I don't think I would consider that to be a lesser model. Slightly different maybe but still very capable.

It's about a five hour drive away so don't  know if there is more info. Current owner didn't seem to be very clued up on it.

That sticker says “312-8” if my eyes don’t deceive me.  I know that some of the 300 series tractors came with the 6” front wheels.  If you get a chance to look at it in person and the serial number is still there under the seat, you could get all the pertinent info.  Looking at the condition of that seat pan though, I have my doubts that the sticker will still be there...

I should have the worded that slightly, not so much lesser, but a lower spec maybe. I don't like those little wheels, wonder if big ones would fit or would it end up nose high?

Yes, it will make it slightly nose high. You can easily swap the front spindles with the shorter one though.

I don't think I'd worry about running six inch wheels unless I was going to be doing something like a front end loader.

I have a 310-8 and its my go to for many things. If the price is right, don't be afraid to buy it. Especially since I know there aren't as many horses across the pond. If you don't mow, 8" wheels don't make that big of a difference. Go for it!!!

That's about what I was thinking. If you change to 8 you're only going to have a front end that is 1 inch higher.

Its really less than that. My 310 came with 15x6-6 tires and 8" wheels mostly have 16x6.50-8. Thats just a half inch, I threw some 4.80x8"s on mine while I am painting the front rims for new tires and it's very little difference. Thinking I may stay with the narrow tires on the bigger wheels.

Yeah your right, and they aren't as common as over your way.

 

Trying to find someone to buy the Laser as I really don't want that, or the bother of trying to sell it on.

This 312-8 and your C-125 are roughly equivalent in terms of build strength and capabilities.  I have an '81 C-105 and an '86 310-8 (older than this 312-8), and use them for almost exactly the same purposes.  There's styling differences obviously, but the only issue I have with the 310-8 is that the steering assembly doesn't seem as robust, especially at the top of the shaft where it joins the dash.

 

Personally, I'd be a little concerned about the rust on that 312-8, looks like it's spent a good bit of its life outdoors.  But I know you noticed that already.

I agree looks a bit like it's been outside a while, but then one of my c125's was green with mould and works fine.

 

For the right money it would be worth it, just need to get Marie to agree....

If that horse is in the UK, it was possibly made in Belgium.  The model numbers for the Belgium horses are a little different then those from the States.  Here is the Belgium List.

The guy wants too much money for it as usual, they all seem to think wheelhorses are gold plated over here. Especially as it's not running, probably something simple wrong.

 

I left an offer, he wants more but will leave it at that.

I'm never that lucky, everyone always wants a fortune for (what to them) is junk. It's the American pickers syndrome, it's worth nothing until somebody wants it, then it's worth too much.

not a fan of 6" front wheels on a garden tractor - especially the larger garden tractors

I believe the smaller 6" tires are so the offset twin blade 37" deck wont hit the left front tire. The offset twin blade 37" deck was available at the time with a non powerflo bagger set up.

yes - I am aware of this 

 

they coulda/shoulda then made the smaller 6" wheels (and spindles) a dealer installed option for anyone that planned to use the 37" deck 

 

( also not a fan of 37" deck on a large garden tractor  lol )
