WH Tiller

OK folks, this tiller is local, and I would love to have it IF I can make it fit my 71 Raider 10.  I know it is a long shot, as I cannot see how the Raider could power the drive pulley on the tiller.  But i am open to ideas, and have done crazy things before...  What WH was this built to fit?  The owner says it is a 36”, but does not give any other information.  Thanks!  Danny

I Believe it would fit, I put one on my raider 14, it has a really long drive belt

Edgro, thanks!  I think it will work, and comes with all the pulleys, minus the belt.  How much should I pay, assuming it is in working condition?  The owner says it works great...  Danny

The tines are very costly, so the value will vary much.  My guess is that the tiller with good tines would be $300 to $350.

Lynnmor, Thank you for the response.  Here is a picture of the tines.  Should they be curved on the ends?  Not knowing what they should look like makes it hard to judge their condition.   The guy is asking $250, and I may be able to get it for less. What do you think?

Thanks!  Danny

They look very worn, I'm no expert but mine have a couple of inches extra.

They are worn quite a bit. It has seen many hours of use for sure. But depending on how much tilling you need to do, they will probably work sort of decent for a number of hours to come. If it functions good, and all the brackets and all comes with it, I wouldn't mind 200 ish for it. It needs to come with at least the mid mount bracket with pulleys that goes where your mower deck would latch on. A + would be a rear axle bracket, as you will need that too. Belt should be a 141" A-belt if on a C or 3-4-500 series. Not sure on the raider. Have heard talk of 139" on some models.

Check for oil leaks! they tend to leak at the tine shaft, and the input shaft. Both fixable though :-)

Not sure how on the raider, but you need to lift the tiller too, so some cable works and perhaps a rockshaft and some chain I'm guessing too? Or well that is how it should be on newer model tractors anyway.

Here you can see how they should be, and also the price for replacements :-)

The tines are about spent.  A-Z has his aftermarket kit listed on Ebay for $540!

Guys, Thank you for all the responses.  I really appreciate it!  This tiller did come with the mid mount brackets and pulleys, (owner sent me pics) but I am going to pass on this tiller.  I will keep my eyes open for another, as I definitely have use for one.  I assume the rear mount bracket is the same one that mounts the dozer (snow?) blade?  The tiller did not come with them, but the mounts for the dozer blade I already have.  And yes, the new tines are expensive!  Thanks again!  Danny

WHX??

One thing that might be a deal breaker with that style tiller is a lift mechanism. They need a rock shaft in the rear which on a raider is going to take some head :confusion-confused:

they lift via a chain to a rockshaft under the seat.

Here is a till I just let go for 325 and the tines are nice yet.

WHX24, Yes, Your tiller was nice, and I would have love to have it, but the distance between us and the cost of shipping ruled it out for me.  I also wondered if the electric lift on this tractor would be a problem...  FWIW, I really do not like the electric lift,, as the adjustment of the implements is hard to control.  It is just too darn fast, and I have shortened the stroke on this thing to slow it as much as possible and still keep the implements functional.  But adjustment is inconsistent and still too fast.  If it ever fails, I will go back to the manual lift.  Adding a rock shaft isn’t impossible, but you are right, it would be a challenge.  Thanks for the input!  Danny
