oldoutboard 2 #1 Posted June 20, 2020 I have a C-101 Wheel Horse tractor with the snowblower attached and would like to know which tire tread (tractor lug tread or Turf tread) would work better in snow I have both tire treads on rims and want to buy a set of tire chains for the tread that works best in snow and on a tar driveway. ebinmaine 67,271 #2 Posted June 20, 2020 I've run both turfs with chains and ags with chains and I don't see any difference in traction on the snow and ice. Ag/bar type tires without chains work far better in the mud than a regular turf tire of course. But on the ice and snow my experience shows it's the chains that do all the grabbing and the tire is merely holding the chain in place. LARGE amounts of WEIGHT are going to be the key to traction in the snow. Get your tires liquid-filled. I use and recommend Rimguard. Get as much steel weight as you can. build a box for the back as well if you like. The heavier the better. If you have an asphalt driveway that you'd like to keep in decent shape your best bet is rubber chains. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
