Just about sundown I heard a knock on the door, looked up and saw this little guy (or gal) checking things out.  Only stands about four feet tall.   No Bear food here so he moved on. I took in the bird feeder a few minutes earlier.

How cool is that? Although they can quickly become a nuisance. I am in the process of live trapping (and releasing) raccoons. They too are attracted to my bird feeders and I have caught 15 in the last five weeks or so. I've been taking them for a five mile ride and releasing them. Several of my friends think I should be disposing of them rather than releasing. The last two were small kits so I'm pretty sure I caught the mother last week. We have left the bird feeders on the deck  the past few nights and they haven't been bothering them.

Bear sightings around here are very few and far between.  This one was found last week in a town nearby.

At our old house, there was one just a couple miles down the road sighted at a pond I’d toss a row boat in and cast (not much catching going on) a worm around once in a while.

Don't be surprised if your catching the same Coons over and over. 5 miles is nothing for them to travel and they might just beat you home.

Not uncommon for them to walk through our backyard.

Some years back I watched a programme about feral cats. A family of them lived in an old barn and the tomcat was caught and fitted with a tracker. Each night that cat travelled the same circuit. Seven miles.

It is not as much a bird feeder as it is a home entertainment center for the cats.
