Stormin 9,981 #26 Posted June 15, 2020 I'm another map man. I do have a sat nav, but seldom use it and when I do I have maps and notes to back it up.
ebinmaine 67,279 #27 Posted June 15, 2020 I have kind of an odd combo habit there. Hiking? Paper map. I've tried GPS and I've been with other hikers that have it and I'm not impressed. Trina has an alarmingly good memory and she can read a map better than most. Normally we will stick to loop style trails and either bring a paper map with us or memorize what it is that we are looking at. Then just get gone up the hill. When I'm in my own vehicle I use my phone as a GPS but often keep a paper map as a backup. Where the weird part comes in is that I normally look ahead through most or all of the chosen route and don't even use the GPS while we are driving. Work trucks on the other hand... 99.99% of the time it's an electric GPS and no paper backup. With the territory that we cover and the new roads that are being added all the time it would be nearly impossible to keep up with paper printouts.

formariz 11,987 #29 Posted June 16, 2020 There you go. Like Archimedes said “ give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum point to place it on and I shall move the world” .
