RJ Hamner 1,007 #1 Posted June 11, 2020 Since they replaced my shoulder last December I haven't been able to do much on my 416-8 rebuild. With trying to follow the DR's advice and now the COVID19 thing having to stay home I've been going a little (?) nuts. I was mowing the yard last week a come up with the idea to find and rebuild a deck for my C121 (I come up with some of my better ideas while mowing) I called Lincoln at A-Z Tractor and was told he had several worthy candidates. So.....ROAD TRIP!! I had not been to A-Z's new location yet so that was going to be a plus. Found one that I liked and did some old fashioned "horse trading" with Lincoln and brought it home and field stripped it. Saw a post about using Rust Bullet on the underside of the deck so thought I give it a try. Followed all the directions and I am really impressed with the results. While waiting for the paint to dry I took the spindles apart and did some intense scrubbing. Cleaned and inspected the bearings then blasted the housings and primed and painted them to cut done on some of the corrosion. When the two coats of the Rust Bullet are good and dry I'll flip it over and get the top ready to go 2

RJ Hamner 1,007 #4 Posted June 13, 2020 Made an interesting discovery about the Rust Bullet coating Went to turn the deck shell over this afternoon and found out that some of the coating had made its way thru the bolt holes and the shell was now stuck to the roller table I had it laying on. A couple of sacks with a rubber hammer did the trick. But the real interesting thing is to clean up the stuff where it had run thru the bolt holes I had tried a sharp chisel but ended up having to use a grinder. So I guess the bad news is really great news.......the stuff is a real bear to get off!
Lee1977 6,648 #5 Posted June 14, 2020 Sounds like the same stuff I used with a different name. I used Agriguard painted the spindle housings with the blade washers in place. I got between the ad washers. I had to used a chicle to get them apart. I painted three decks with it last year. The deck I use to mow grass it's still on. The deck used to mow the gravel drive and with the vacuum most of it's gone around the blades still some above the blades. The other deck it's stay on I don't mow the drive with it . If you got that paint in the rim of the paint can it won't come back off in one piece.
RJ Hamner 1,007 #6 Posted June 17, 2020 Almost there. Waiting on the last coat on the belt covers to dry and the new decals to arrive. Then attach the new blades and do the final adjustments on the tractor (but it's supposed to rain for the next couple of days)
