Pullstart 62,800 #1 Posted June 11, 2020 So I have many people ask me if I can do such and such work. Many times, I say yes... though I haven’t actually done that work. I’ve operated numerous pieces of hydraulic equipment over the years and have always wanted to get into the big stuff. I had a call, asking to clear a few acres of land. Cleanup is not necessary, just piled off to the edges will work. Sounds like I’ll be in the seat of a 104 hp JD 650K Dozer/Ripper in the next week. To say I’m excited... is an understatement! 7 6

clueless 2,976 #11 Posted June 11, 2020 Kev, 30 years ago when my brother cleared his 5 acres he used an excavator and a Kamatsu dozer. He was a supervisor for a large road company and he and the owner were and still are good friends. So the owner let him use the equipment during their two week Christmas break. Anyway he gave me a quick down and dirty lesson on the dozer and off I went, he was pulling up trees and brush and I was pushing it into big plies, and filling the holes in. Still one of the best four days of my life . I told him this is the job I want, he said first couple of years are fun after 20, not do much. Enjoy It. 4

Sparky-(Admin) 21,312 #17 Posted June 11, 2020 I’m so jealous! Many years ago when I was an electrician I was asked by a landscaper if I would move topsoil with a Bobcat for a weekend for cash under the table. For some reason he thought I was experienced with skid steers, I didn’t tell him I could barely spell Bobcat let alone run one ! But I figured it out pretty quick and the property was level so flipping it wasn’t an issue and it turned out to be the best 12 hours ever!!! 3

In the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew a coworker's house was beyond repair because it had been grandfathered in and didn't meet new setback standards. He rented a Bobcat and a couple of dumpsters and several of us took turns seeing who could bite off the biggest chunk of the building. That was a fun weekend. 1
