manwithnoname01 1 #1 Posted June 11, 2020 Looking for guidance regarding Toro WH 314-H 42 inch rear discharge deck model 78350. I need to replace a spindle assembly on the deck but for the life of me I cannot get the pulley off of the spindle (PN 109967). Attached is a picture of the pulley. I can remove the nut-jam and washer-lock no problem but the pulley will not lift off. I have tried everything including heating it with no luck. Am I missing something or is this pulley threaded on? I have looked at the parts list and it looks like it should lift right off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
daveoman1966 3,766 #2 Posted June 11, 2020 (edited) (1) Remove the grease zerk and lockwasher. (2) Thread nut down to within 1/4" or so of the pulley. (3) Set a BRASS drift pin or ball-peen hammer on top of the SHAFT. (4) with a BFH, SMACK the brass drift pin with some VIOLENCE.. don't be shy. (5) the SMACK should break the pulley free of the shaft and the nut will stop the shaft from falling out of the spindle on the bottom. . You MAY want to set the deck on a couple cinder blocks....with the subject spindle in the hole of one block...just to stabalize the deck and make a solid surface to pound on. I've done this dozens of times...without fail. Edited June 11, 2020 by daveoman1966

Dave's method works well but I have also helped the process along a little. There will be a little rust (AKA Brown Weld) between the shaft and pulley. I have used paraffin wax applied while the metal is hot to lubricate the shaft/pulley.
Skwerl58 737 #4 Posted June 11, 2020 When I replaced my spindle last year I set the deck on blocks, removed the spindle bolts. Then put a piece of wood on the deck, under the pulley and used a pry bar to pop it off. Came right off.
