When I drained the first batch of butterscotch pudding, I dug down to the bottom of the pan after letting is settle for a while and didn't see/feel anything metallic. So that's a plus. Still have to get the lower unit oil and give that a try. Even though it's quieter, I noticed when mowing last night I could still hear it whining a bit when going uphill.
