rustyiron038 1 #1 Posted June 9, 2020 hi all, have a problem, put a new 82x5/8 belt on my raider 10, when I push the clutch to disengage trans. the belt keeps spinning the trans making it almost impossible to shift, any thoughts on what might be causing this. The belt I put on was a gates b79 which is 21/32 wide is this the problem Help and thanks
71_Bronco 1,072 #2 Posted June 9, 2020 Sounds like the drive belt you put on is a little too long. Did you double check it against the belt you took off?

rustyiron038 1 #6 Posted June 9, 2020 whats the difference between the napa belt and the gates i see the napa is taller is that the only difference
squonk 41,328 #7 Posted June 9, 2020 (edited) The B series belts have a different profile and side angle. They also don't flex as well and the back side is not flat. They are not made to run on back side idlers. 5L series belts are thinner profile and flexible and can run on back side I used to sell tons of belts and used Napa #'s as an example. Napa belts are made by Gates. For example 5L 820 is a std. Rubber belt 5/8" wide X 82" long. 5L820W is a wrapped belt. They are green. You can also use TSC blue belts such as 5/8 X 82. I have used both on Wheel Horses for over 20 years with no issues. Be careful some belts are listed as both B and 5L and they do not work.
