D_Mac 8,618 #1 Posted June 8, 2020 (edited) Well I picked this up a couple weeks ago. It got me back into the club since I was left " Horseless" after having to sell the 3 that I had. I havent been able to make any progress on my Lambert project, I am still looking for an engine for it. So in my spare time I have been working on this C-161. It ran pretty good when I picked it up. The rear end fluid was low. Lights didnt work. Looked like a mess but over all pretty good. Since then I cleaned it pretty good. Did a little spray can touch up on the deck. Put a new seat on it. Had to buy a new air filter assembly. Bought new front head light lens and new tail light lens's from @76c12091520h. Got new decals from @Vinylguy Just today rewired the lights so they all work and changed the oil in the engine. All I have left that I want to do is change the rear end oil and ask all of your opinions on replacing the engine mounts with the rubber again or just use the spacers? Here some before and after photos cause I know how much we all like pictures. Edited June 8, 2020 by D_Mac 3 13

Gonna convert a couple of my tractors eventually. 2
D_Mac 8,618 #6 Posted June 8, 2020 (edited) Who do we know that has a Cinnamon colored Horse ......hmmmmmmm? Wasnt the kind of mount I was looking for ! @ebinmaine Edited June 12, 2020 by D_Mac
D_Mac 8,618 #7 Posted June 8, 2020 Maybe I will order them. Wonder if you can replace them with having to lift the engine off. I need to take a better look. Mine still operates fine, I seen one that could use replacing so I figured might as well do all 4.
WHX?? 48,815 #8 Posted June 8, 2020 (edited) Yup I'm lost. .. what exactly kind of mount were you looking for?? You do not need to pull the motor just lift it up a side at a time. Edited June 8, 2020 by WHX24
D_Mac 8,618 #9 Posted June 8, 2020 @WHX24 I was asking about changing the rubber engine mounts to solid engine mounts. @Achto said you had tried the ones in the link he sent me and you were pleased.

Tuneup 1,433 #13 Posted June 8, 2020 D_MAC - I did a recent write-up on the installation of these in a similar tractor without removing the engine. It took an hour all considered. Look elsewhere on these pages. I've had them for a month now and am thrilled with the quality and support from Zach, who kept me informed while they were being made. Personal touches always appreciated. All that said, a very tight fit as there is no more rubber "give" to allow for installation tolerance. If you're patient, you're golden. If not, walk away or obtain a beer to aid in other ways. Good luck!

I know @Ed Kennell made his own but this is plug & play and looks nice!

Its not chrome, I just painted it with " chrome" paint. @Tuneup I will look for that post @WHX24 Looks pretty good, any troubles getting them on? Does the kit come with the bolts or should I be getting new ones?
WHX?? 48,815 #16 Posted June 8, 2020 No no problems, take all the bolts outs and pry up enough on the motor to slide they out. Do one side at a time. They do not come with hardware. I used the old ones over.

D_Mac 8,618 #18 Posted June 9, 2020 Hey thanks @12Horse Paladin This was an easy one.I just put a little make up on it. Mechanically it didnt need much. A little wiring, couple of easy parts replaced. Was running and driving nice when I got it. These are great tractors, I see why everyone likes them.
D_Mac 8,618 #19 Posted June 12, 2020 Well my engine mounts should be here tomorrow. If I run into any trouble I will be blaming @WHX24 ..... Just kidding ... I hope I will be able to get them all in. I dont like the way it shakes like crazy at low rpm. Guessing thats how the air filter broke. I also wanted to ask if changing the size of the filter going to make any difference? I also ordered a new gas cap for it. Thinking about painting the wheels... someone stop me !!
D_Mac 8,618 #20 Posted June 12, 2020 Mounts came in the mail today. I havent tried installing them yet. I just finished painting the wheels. Might go out and try later or save them for tomorrow. 1
D_Mac 8,618 #22 Posted June 14, 2020 Well when I tell you I spent all day trying to install these mounts I mean allllllll day. I started about 1030 and I quit at 8 this evening. Not because I got them in I just give up. I dont think there is anyway these fit. At one point I had three in. Could not get the bolt to line up on the 4th to save my life. Decided to take the other 3 out and try again. Big mistake because then I can only get 2 in. I am afraid at this point I just going to have to try and reinstall the original mounts. When the mounts are in place it dosnt allow the center bolt to be at the proper angle to thread into the frame. Ughhhhhhhh

When the mounts are in place it dosnt allow the center bolt to be at the proper angle to thread into the frame. Ughhhhhhhh Did you tighten the small bolts before you tried the center bolt. The bent steel plate could bent different with all the bouncing around for 40 years. I would try to get all the bolts started before tighten any of them. If that doesn't work you might try drilling out the center hole in the mount a thirty second larger then they are now to give a little more room to get the center bolt started. That won't make any difference once it's bolted down. Edited June 14, 2020 by Lee1977
D_Mac 8,618 #24 Posted June 14, 2020 I tried everything. Going out there again soon. Might just have to put the old ones back on. Maybe half and half? Very frustrating and I am to old for this ..lol... I am so sore today from doing this yesterday. I dont know what else to do.
Lee1977 6,659 #25 Posted June 14, 2020 I can see the problem. That heavy engine on top and the plate having to be perfectly line up to get the bolts in. Wish somebody was close by to help you.
