formariz 11,987 #4 Posted June 7, 2020 (edited) @bcgold Can I see a better photo of the dogs. Are they doubled ? They seem to be the wrong angle and pitch for grabbing a log. formariz 11,987 #8 Posted June 7, 2020 That is a very specialized tool. Those 3 holes most likely for a rod to control angle and pivoting of chain. Hooks are not sharp enough or angled correctly for any dragging or moving function whether wood or ice.. Mows4three 826 #18 Posted June 7, 2020 (edited) We have lots of short lines around our area of Pennsylvania, well we used to. Mostly to haul coal or coke. I’ve seen a few of these at swap meets and flea markets. Thought they were railroad associated. The mines all had tracks laid in them too. No wonder they show up a couple times a year. Using music and dance to time the movements is really clever, I guess other jobs may have done similar such as sailors singing to time each haul on a rope. The knowledge we keep here is being lost at a high rate of knots, so much history being written off by the new world.
