3WHDave 60 #1 Posted June 6, 2020 Well, I stripped the spline on my D-180 today, and I have only myself to blame, pulling a tree out of the woods. I can see the spline not moving and it makes that “stripped spline” sound. All advice and potential fixes are welcome. I do have about 1/2 of spline showing, any possibility of sliding the engine back to grab the good spline? I’m not even sure if the engine is mounted on slots or straight holes. Not happy camper. pfrederi 17,741 #2 Posted June 6, 2020 That is not a good thing... Sarge posted here a couple years ago about how he had a spline repaired but it was a complex job with a lot of machine shop work. used ones are normally not in very good shape, but would be better than a completely stripped one. i tightened mine up a couple years ago. Put a bolt in the end of the pump shaft to pull the spline on as far as i could get it with out hitting the pump front mount took a fair amount of fiddling with shims to get the distance right.. Put extra washers on the pump side of the rubber connector so the engine didn't have to be relocated. also used the loctite recommended in the service bulletin. never found the special washer they mentioned.... Check out TSB 217 and 305 Been working OK I do not ram the FEL into things, these are not bulldozers....
pacer 3,173 #3 Posted June 6, 2020 Check this out --- its listed $50 by one of our members here on the forum for a Charger 12, but iirc a lot of the parts will interchange ---geez the thing looks like new!! https://www.ebay.com/itm/202930666866

Also i think he stripped the cast iron coupling not the pump shaft
3WHDave 60 #5 Posted June 6, 2020 Thanks again Paul, more good advice. My brother and I removed the motor (Indy speed) and the pump spline appears to have about 75% left to work with while the female coupler is shot. A new coupler is on my hit list.

I think it was used to make the couple spacing correct. I may have removed mine so the coupling would engage more of the shaft and installed a bolt in the end of the shaft. I would use something like Loctite 660 on that fit also. It may increase the life. At times I miss that old D...... and then at times I don't
