Gotcha.

Any thoughts what you're using for a gauge or sending unit or anything?

Mechanical for sure. For oil temp, just an adapter threaded into the pan just like the old coolant temp sensors we all stuck in our cars with the long wire.  IF I decide to go head temp, would definitely use the 'ring on spark plug' style.....

Does that thread into the base on the opposite side of the drain or something like that?

Should work anywhere it can contact oil. I gotta look, not even sure if theres an additional drain plug on mine haha. Im not taking it back apart!

If you haven’t mentioned yet, sorry for my ignorance...  but how about opening that hood and showing off the rest of the exhaust?  Looks like a loop before the stack?

@pullstarthere ya go bud. 1 1/2" OD 14 gauge mandrel bends. Plan was to 'loop' the pipe all the way to the frame and back up, but will most likely see a PTO one day so I couldnt do it. Wanted as much pipe length as possible between the port and muffler without looking ridiculous and maybe pick up some scavenging help. On the same token, it oughtta have a long intake manifold as well, not getting into that either so I drew the line. Its a dang tractor, not a dragster:lol:

Dont laugh at my ugly welds HA, never been good at 'going in a circle'......

Wet manifold?  Water drain trap?  You know, that could have a real use with a tall stack.  Drill a little weep hole in the bottom of that trap.  Could have saved many an engine!

Coating?  And the threaded end at the muffler has got me in pause mode.

I'mma guess BBQ paint. And NPT thread to fit iron pipe.

That's actually something Im concerned with- these stacks like to 'blow' condensation when first fired up, and that 'trap' is a perfect place for it to collect. So far appears to be ok, but may end up needing a tiny weep hole.

Coating is VHT 'flame proof'- we use it on the custom coleman lantern tops which hit 750-900 degrees- zero issues.

@ebinmaine is correct on the fittings, and the one at the muffler is a plain old union I chucked in the lathe. This way I can stab anything I want on there, like a straight pipe if I want to tick off the neighbors once in awhile:lol:

@Greentored I have so many questions! Why a 14hp? Cause that’s the biggest hp in their group; and there are so many 14hps out there? What the difference in the cam lift? Are the 10hps more lift? Nice tractor!!!!!😎💪

Never seen such...  I doubt it would need a weep hole.  Run for a minute or two should deal with that.

Thanks for the explanations!

Dennis my Cinnamon Horse c160 does that.

For the first few minutes of runtime water comes out the seam between the top of the muffler and the bottom of the stack.

I'm not worried about rust through because it's made out of black iron pipe but...

I should probably do something like change a fitting so the water has a place to collect at the elbow.

I can't say why he used a 14hp, but there are more 14's out there that 16's and he may have just had one already. As far as the cams go, 10 horse to 16 horse were all the same cams. An 18 hp cam added some duration I believe so they were popular to put in the smaller engines for pulling. You can't find the 18 hp cams anymore so aftermarket is the go to for a bigger cam. Best bang for the buck is to go with a LP head or have your current head milled .050 to add compression. It really wakes these little motors up. The LP heads are bringing huge money these days, so milling you head is best money spents

Randy is there a site or source that shows a rough idea of what you get for different improvements?

I know there's way way too many variables to pinpoint something but I'm talking like an average.

Not really, the puller guys all agree about it, but nobody ever shares dyno data.

I do know you can run an LP head with standard gasket on 91 ethanol free pump gas with no problems on a 12 horse. You can put one on a 14 if it has the small valves. Milling a normal head .050 gives a little less compression than an LP so same deal with the fuel.

Also, since we are all running stock rpm's, putting bigger carbs really just takes away some torque. The guys selling aftermarket cams can probably give a rough estimate of what one of there cams will add to a stock motor.

I have no real logical reason for building anything stronger than I have but the whole science behind it fascinates me.

I want to build something like @Greentored A14hp with a edelbrock torque cam and Chevy valves and a flat top piston... of wait that’s the small block Chevy I’ve been dreaming about!!  I will admit, I was thinking about, greentored’s 14hp when I was snowblowing!

Small block in a horse. Don't even push me.

Hmmm.. I don’t think the eight speed would take it!🤔

Mebbe I'd haveta go Full trucker mode. Ole 292 straight 6, 20 forward speeds.

For nooooooo good reason.

292... loads and loads of torque!! “A straight torque curve!” That’s my dream once the 250 Chevy bites the dust! I think I’d like to take the power king mode and have the tranny in front of another tranny! Low low in back of a 292... you’d be able to pull a house down without it even breathing hard!!😎

@AHS @RandyLittrell down here in my area, the K301s are a dime a dozen, the K321s pretty uncommon, and K341s forget it, unless you open the wallet. @Bert had a nice, tired one and threw it in a package deal when I raided his stables last year.

As for the heads, I didnt even attempt to find an LP head, but had one off a 10hp on the shelf, they are 'heart' shaped around the valves. My K321 had the big exhaust valve, and I had to relieve material around that area of the head for it to work. IIRC I took .025 off the block, .050-.055 off the head, unshrouded and relieved a bunch, CC'd everything and ended up at 9.3:1 with a stock style head gasket.

I love the sound of inline 6’s... their so unique!! I have a book on inline, the torque they can make out of such a little motor!!

@AHS has to be talking about the 'Inline Six Cylinder Power Manual'- the Bible of straight 6 books!
