416-8 Drive Belt issue

Have a 1994 416-8 with Onan. Model 73420. Drive belt looked ok but wanted to replace it. When I would take off it was very slow/sluggish to start to move. Replaced the original worn drive belt. Still had wheel horse stamped on it and the part number (107939). Crossed it over to a NAPA number and the dimensions where identical. 83”. Napa number was NBH B80.

After putting the new drive belt on and putting everything back together the clutch pedal seems to only have about 2-3” of total travel. And now it’s a wheelie machine. Only takes a 1/2” from bottom of clutch pedal and it takes right off. I can handle that just takes a softer release. But after 30 mins of drive time on and off moving it around. Then I started to mow with it for about 30 mins. Afterwards when I pressed clutch it won’t disengage the drivebelt. So I had to shut motor off. Then started in neutral and it wanted to grind to go into gear. Obviously belt isn’t slowing down enough to go into gear...

Is there an adjustment I am missing or do I need to clean the pulleys? The return spring for clutch that hooks to rearend seems ok. Thank you in advance!

OEM belt 107939 is NOT 83" length.  It is 83.5"...   the 1/2 inch shorter NAPA belt at 83" is too short...not for the Toro  design

The OEM belt is about $33 on line...

@daveoman1966 so will the 93-9809 belt work also? Seems like that’s what the 107939 part number switched to. Thanks again

agree with others above on the drive belt detail, while you are at it take the time to LUBRICATE  EVERY MOVING  FRICTIONAL POINT , found that to make every part move smoothly like it should , no wheelies . eliminate the rust , make it smooth , pete
