Flat Thunder Channel 178 #1 Posted May 21, 2020 Tim Allen from Tool Time........'heh heeh heee more power!' I'm sure it has been done before, but I have had the thought of installing a Harley Davidson engine on a garden tractor. Anyone interested in seeing a Harley mowing the lawn??? Chugging along, potato potato vroom.... Check out my channel:http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX61KjaMraBMgVo-wK5bFQQ 3 1

squonk 41,155 #7 Posted May 21, 2020 Use a Goldwing motor. It would prolly fit better. Ian used a a Silverwing motor on a project. If you use the Harley motor you will have to use Loctite and lockwashers on every nut and bolt. 3 1

Flat Thunder Channel 178 #10 Posted May 21, 2020 The 'oh ship' toilet paper accessory! The original idea popped into head my several years ago. I walked through someones shop and noticed an old 883 engine lying on the floor. I made and offer to buy it, but he was not interested. He asked why I wanted it and I jokingly said I'll mount it to a garden tractor. I have thought about it multiple times since then. I think it could be a fun project. Now I just need to secretly stash parts for this project without my wife finding out. She dislikes the idea of me starting new projects, Hahaha An electric fan can easily keep this engine cool. It would only have to chug around at low rpm. A mechanical fan addition would be handy too though. This is just the beginning.....I have tons of ideas.

littleredrider 409 #12 Posted May 22, 2020 If the motor is mostly idling around, it wouldn't get that hot to warrant a fan. It wouldn't hurt to have one, but won't hurt it either. Would be fun tho!!!!
Flat Thunder Channel 178 #13 Posted May 29, 2020 The hunt is on!!! Looking for a salvage / wrecked motorcycle I could harvest an engine from. If you know of anyone wanting to unload a sportser or even a bigger bike send them to Ohio! Wish I would have purchased one of the 96 cubic takeoff motors around 2010. The new bigger engine came out and people were practically giving the old 96'ers away. I thought I saw them listed as $450 before, but could be imaging things again.
Flat Thunder Channel 178 #14 Posted January 30, 2021 Well it's on....I have been looking and looking for donor motorcycles for this project. I was unable to find a wrecked motorcycle or even a used one in my price range. I love Harley Davidson motorcycles, but somehow the value on these things is skewed a little. Private sellers are asking big bucks for what I see is leaning more towards a worn out heap, but hey it does have that H-D branding. I looked for newer motorcycles and was going to part out the rest of the motorcycle. I think this was the best route. However those too were priced pretty hefty. In my hunt I stumbled across Harley's street model line. It's a motorcycle they created, I believe, to compete with the import industries. It still sports a V-Twin engine, but it is also water cooled. This just in I won and auction..... Can anyone say Harley Davidson XG750, fuel injected, water cooled V-twin Wheelhorse tractor? I can see it in my head. Now I just need to find time to build it..... It might be awhile, but it's going to happen! 👍😁

Flat Thunder Channel 178 #17 Posted February 4, 2021 Does anyone have horsepower torque curves for a 20 HP Onan? Curious how the power output compares to a factory Onan.
littleredrider 409 #18 Posted February 4, 2021 There will be no comparison!!! That motor is gonna make horsepower n torque everywhere over the Onan....

Flat Thunder Channel 178 #20 Posted February 4, 2021 I will add them in as it progresses 😁. Just recently found a power unit. Some of the bits and pieces are arriving. Have yet to locate the best donor tractor. Might be a GT workhorse series tractor dad has in the shop. Not sure yet on the full design and direction. Building the tractor around the engine per say...... A section of my header pipe arrived yesterday. I know it's not overly exciting, but it's pictures 😉
