Nathan Hayman 4 #1 Posted May 20, 2020 I just purchased a 1973 14HP wheel horse and have been thinking of putting wider tires on the back and not sure how wide I am able to go and what all I would need to do I currently have 23x8.50-12s on the back any advice would help thanks.
Achto 27,597 #2 Posted May 20, 2020 23 10.50 x 12's would fit on your existing rims with no alterations needed. You will have some side wall bulge. 24 12 x 12 or 26 12 x 12's would require wider rims and may rub the fenders.
oliver2-44 9,758 #3 Posted May 20, 2020 I have 23X9.5 on my C-160 original rims with no noticeable tire bulge. I'veread as you get bigger tires that at some point the deck will begin hitting the tires. Hopefully someone will jump in here with that information.
Lee1977 6,663 #4 Posted May 20, 2020 23 x 10.50 x 12 on 7" rims will rub the deck wheel on a 42"side discharge on the discharge side. A rear discharge might be different I don;t have one. A 48" side discharge works with a good clearance.
Nathan Hayman 4 #5 Posted May 22, 2020 Thank you guys for the info I will be looking into what size I want this really helped me out.I plan on making this a show tractor so we will most likely take the deck off so I won’t have to worry about the tires rubbing on it.
littleredrider 409 #6 Posted May 22, 2020 miller tire has rim blanks, can make your own wheel to whatever backspace you want. 520s and workhorse 1848s I think have the 8" wide wheels. Some other brands have the wider wheels too, but some have funky backspace. I got a set in the junkyard off a zero turn or reel mower of some sort. Even close to the same wheel color as our horses lol.
