I had a pretty nice pedal car colletion before the cancer. I had to sell most of them. here are a few. A couple of before and afters. The JD and the Super Sonic Jet I restored myself.

Another story from the Peacemaker...

 

Seeing the above JD green made me think of my dad’s toy tractor/implements.  He grew up in a serious Case farm dating back to when the Stertz clan settled in Wisconsin around 1900.  My uncles still cash crop with Case tractors to this day.

They love to restore and play with the old letter series Case tractors...

As well as the larger late model machines like Uncle Bob’s massive 90 series all wheel drive 

 

The reason I am relating this story is because back in 1958 when dad went with Grandpa to the case dealership to get some parts he was drooling on the little Case scale model tractors.  Unfortunately at that time they were all plastic and grandpa wasn’t a fan.  Over the upcoming months, dad would drop hints that he would like his own toy tractor.  So grandpa looked into it and found out that the ERTL company had just started to produce an all metal scale model of the John Deere 630/730 series tractor.  It was complete with operational three point and had multiple attachments. Christmas of 1958 rolled around and a 6 year old Don received his very own tractor and even though he was a dyed in the wool Case guy, he still thought the little JD was so cool!  The interesting thing with my dad is that he has always been meticulous with taking care of his stuff.  The next summer as a 7 year old, whenever he would play with his tractor in the dirt, he would bring it in and wash it in the laundry sink.  Grandpa would continue buying him implements over the next couple of years until he had what you see here...

Ive been telling him for years that he needs to build a display case for them and yesterday he sent me this pic of his project for the day.  What you see there are the very same toys that he received as a child over 60 years ago and they are all original. He played with them regularly and yet took care of them.  I assume that because they are a very early series John Deere set from ERTL that they would be pretty collectible. However, the sentimental value and family history far surpasses the cash/book value of them.  Someday (hopefully many years down the road) when my dad has gone home to his eternal reward, that case will hang proudly in my shop amongst all the “RED” as a testament to a man of character who knew how to take care of his things whether big or small...

Took a few more pics. Short story. The fellow who built this worked for my brother. He was a pilot in Korea. We were talking at a dinner about 10 years ago and he finds out I was into WH's. He builds these bird feeder planes all the time. He asked my wife if I would like one. It was a week before my birthday. I came home from work on my birthday and this plane is sitting on my porch!

Got another one in the mail today, this one is only a 1/64 scale, but is very special to me as it is an exact replica of my DC3 I bought from Rodger

My big tractor collection may be shrinking with this whole move in process, but that doesn’t mean my toy collection has to. In fact it grew just a little today. As of now I just need to find an M and I will have the complete Farmall letter series after adding a C and H today. The H was an easy find, and really just an accidental purchase, was browsing eBay a few days ago and came across this H for a low starting bid, figured what the heck I’ll start the bidding. Soon forgot about it and two days later I got an email saying I won, I ended up being the only bidder.

 

The C was another story, I have been looking everyday for a 1/16 scale C with narrow front. Found several wide front models and several Super C’s, but the tractor I wanted seemed to be impossible to find. Finally found this one and paid dearly for it to come home to my shelf with the rest of them
