Need opinions!

Recommended Posts

RandyLittrell

Ok, been in a cleanin and fixin mood lately and finally got a couple of parts bins put up with the help from my neighbor and need your all's opinion. Would you paint the green one's black to match my others? My OCD says yes, but my love of old cool things say no. There is one drawer missing, but I have a longer one that is just like them and need to shorten it, but the color won't match. I think they would clean up pretty good.

Since you already also have a black tool box I probably would paint it black also.

Definitely leave it alone. The wear and age gives it character. On top of that, it still has the lettering on it and in good shape. Maybe you could paint the black ones to match the green?

Leave it alone.  I think it has character.  Adding an odd drawer would give it more.

Why would you ever want to paint over " shut off ***** " ? They other question would be... Why would you ever want to shut it off?  I think the answer is obvious.

Two hearts in my own beats about such a decision, so maybe i‘m not a big help in that decisions.

The first tells me leave it, because it have it‘s own history and the different colors make it easier to separate

the other tells me give it the same optics.

I would maybe leave it in different colors and sorted things depending on color of the draws.

That is easier for me to remember later, where you put what stuff in even without any decals.

Leave it original.  If balance is an issue swap it with the black drawers so black cabinet and drawers are side by side and green is on the end.

Leave it Randy. Just use it and spend your time on a horse. Drawers are drawers. You’ll paint them and then they will get scratches on them and then you’ll be like “ why did I waste my time painting these?” ..... :handgestures-thumbupright:

you want something to OCD about? I have a blue container and a red one. What to do? :laughing-rolling:

Let me elaborate on my earlier answer which is to paint it. Looking around my shop one would ask also why do I recommend painting it when I have so many different old storage cabinets  and I did not decide to paint them all in one color? Besides wheel horses I am also a collector of literally hundreds of different items, such as woodworking tools, vises, and countless numbers of antiques. I know as well as anyone else with interest in these old things the value  and the appeal of an untouched item. Many times in a majority of the items I collect, just cleaning them alone, will destroy their value, and therefor their marketability. I also think that one cannot argue with people's tastes since like they say "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder".

Like everyone else here I am a big recycler, and opportunist, therefor all the different unmatched items furnishing my shop. Some that were in bad shape I painted them in battleship gray my favorite color for all utilitarian shop items, but many are left as found. Painting that cabinet will make it look as a unit with the adjacent ones. If you put labels on them in the provided areas they will also look better and be more visible. By the way for labels on metal cabinets I use magnetic printable sheets that I cut to fit in those slots. They are better than paper and stay put.

Bottom line is that  although there are interesting character marks on it such as the red labeling,it is not a unique item that needs to be left intact. If you would like to see it painted, do so and you will never think about it again. If not it is OK also. You can always do it at a later time if desired. It is whatever that makes you happy with it that will be the right choice. Regardless of your decision on color your decision on getting it and using it is a great one since they are great useful cabinets.

Don't worry, I am gonna keep it OG!!! It was how I was leaning to start with but thought I would throw it out for the masses!

I am embarrassed to say its this project that has not been finished yet! And it might not get done for awhile yet! I am moving the shop all around and I have some goodies to put on the 310, so probably gonna drag it out back for awhile. Going through all my back problems and going on disability really set me back for awhile. Starting get myself happy in life again and my kids helping get things done has really helped.

Thanks guys!! This forum keeps me sane!!

in the first pic there is a bottle of super clean, had a guy give me a whole case of them. Dumped that little bottle in the sprayer and added some water. I think it's works pretty good!
