John2189 445 #1 Posted May 11, 2020 (edited) Hi can someone identify the model of this tractor? It has a Tecumseh HH120 motor and a 42” sickle mower. The coil is bad, no spark. Who knows when it was last run. There are no decals or I’d plate. Just serial number on sickle. Thank. stevasaurus 22,707 #2 Posted May 11, 2020 I'm going to guess it is a 1967 or 1968 tractor that someone put a Tecumseh in. It's hard to tell, but it does appear to have a hi/low range shifter, so could be a 10 pinion LS trans. It does not have running boards, and the throttle and choke are pull not lever. 3 spoke steering wheel.
John2189 445 #3 Posted May 11, 2020 (edited) Tecumseh looks original but not sure. I looked closer and it does have painted over wheel horse decals on the hood and back of the fender. Of all the pictures I have looked at, there are many models that it looks like, but none of those has that bent 3 spoke steering wheel. it only has the one shifter, so I don’t think it has the hi lo trans Edited May 11, 2020 by John2189
stevasaurus 22,707 #4 Posted May 11, 2020 The 1st HH-120 is on a 1974 C-120. The lack of running boards bothers me with that, and that year would have levers for choke and throttle. On the other side...who would re-power with a Tecumseh?? Measuring the length of the frame would go a long way to help identify. 67 and 68 had short frames and mid length...the "C"s would be the long frame. Take some paint acetone and gently rub the paint off on those decals. Wood color would be 66...etc. BTW...Welcome to Red Square. edit......I missed this and GWest found it...1970 was the 1st year for the HH-120. Correct my statement above. John2189 445 #5 Posted May 11, 2020 thanks for the welcome. Ok evidently the motor is not original. Best I can measure the frame is 33” to the front of the trans and 6-3/4 wide.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,032 #6 Posted May 11, 2020 Look up tight to the bottom of the dash panel for the ID plate. Mower is likely this one. Click on the picture. Garry
WHX?? 48,776 #7 Posted May 11, 2020 I'm with Dino some sort of 68 or earlier six speed with a repo. Steering wheel is definitely not the one the tractor was built with.

Ok so nothing special. I do have plans to get it running and using it to keep the tree line mowed

Garry Thanks so much for the manual for the mower. Did Haban make this? Edited May 11, 2020 by John2189

Pullstart 62,787 #11 Posted May 11, 2020 not running, I hope you got a good deal on it! The sickle mower I’m guessing is worth more than you paid?

What’s the mower worth? It’s in really good condition. Looks like hardly any wear on the bar.
WHX?? 48,776 #13 Posted May 11, 2020 It's the wobble box that needs to be in good shape. if nothing major inside that 3-400 easy. Seals, bearings & bushings are available aftermarket. Yokes & such not so.

John2189 445 #15 Posted May 11, 2020 I also got a C 165. 8 speed. In the deal. The motor has a broken rod. I have one on order and new rings too. From a list I found looks like they only made the 8 speed one year? 1980
stevasaurus 22,707 #16 Posted May 11, 2020 You might have nailed it with the 68 Commando. That sickle mower was made for those middle 60's. The trans would be a #5053 4 speed with 1" diameter axles. Couldn't tell in the picture if there was a second shifter. If you can find a model number...1-4631 or 1-4831 would be the 68 Commando. Look for a painted over decal just under the dash panel. The C-165's were also 1981.
squonk 41,022 #17 Posted May 11, 2020 I'm thinkn 67 ish with the steering wheel and foot stirrups. Someone got crazy with the sour mash and installed the Tecky! 1
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,032 #18 Posted May 11, 2020 The first HH120 was used in the 1970 Raider 12 model 1-6253 and 1970 Charger 12 model 1-7253. Garry
stevasaurus 22,707 #19 Posted May 11, 2020 I missed this above and have edited to correct what Garry said in his 18th post.. Thanks Garry...I really went through that list to figure that out. I missed it. Sorry.

oliver2-44 9,683 #24 Posted May 12, 2020 FYI I don't have a sickle mower but I think I've read that they really don't take a lot of HP to run. Also maybe not wide open throttle on that sickle. Can one of you sickle guys confirm this.
John2189 445 #25 Posted May 12, 2020 I’d say less than half throttle and first gear
