Live4outdoors 151 #1 Posted May 10, 2020 Hello, been awhile. Trying to thin the stable and figure out what’s worth keeping...is there any way to hitch and operate the 36” tiller for the 80’s wheelhorse behind a 953? Anyone try to modify it with success? My 414-8 is my workhorse but hate it doesn’t have a lift for attachments, pondered keeping 953 for gardening if I can get tiller to hook...that’s the deal breaker! Thanks for any or all of your input.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #2 Posted May 10, 2020 The rear mounted tillers did not show up until 1966 for the hydro models so no application for earlier models. Reason likely being the ground speed of the tractors was too fast. The hydros can be run slower. When the hi-low transmissions came out in 1967 the tillers were available for those. jeremi3210 717 #3 Posted May 12, 2020 I've got one on my 953! Hooking it up to the rear was easy just used the mount for it. Rigged up the lift cable, had the use the pulleys off the original mule drive and make a bracket to bolt it up the the frame even the original belt for it will fit. My 953 I modified into a 8 speed so I have low range gears in it! Works awesome! And no more lifting that heavy tiller! If you have any questions feel free to ask. I would post some pictures but it always says my files are too big.
