C-125 gearbox dilemma

Recommended Posts

Martin H

Hello all,

I'm in need of some education and advice...:)

My 125 is down to 2 gears in low gear and reverse, nothing in the higher ratios. Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding good information for sorting out the gearbox and transmission please  ..? A good diagram as to how it all works would be a good start...:)

Cheers,

Martin H.

Sounds like it might be a shifter fork problem.

The transmission experts will probably be along soon with better information.

Good luck.

Welcome to Red Square...

The manual 8 speed transmission used in the C-125 is a Wheel Horse #103916.  This thread with videos will show you how to fix and assemble your transmission.  The transmission in the videos is a #5091...it is basically the same as your transmission.  One difference would be, the #5091 uses the #1533 ball bearing for the differential carriage...your #103916 transmission uses the #111199 needle bearing for the differential carriage.

The issue with your transmission is probably a bent or broken shift fork for the hi/low range shifter.  TORO has the replacement part for a little over $50.  You will have to drop and open your transmission case.  Check out the pictures and videos in this thread.  The second video and the pictures before it shows the part and the problem.

Here is the manual for all the transmissions...you want to use Section V in conjunction with the videos.

:WRS:

It could be as simple as an adjustment of the Dog-point screw that holds your shift lever in place. This thread should be helpful.

I'd forgotten how useful that thread is.  It's excellent, with Terry's explanation, and all of Bob's original photos and everything, well worth a look!

If you have the shifter out make sure the donut is still secure. Some are welded and never fail but if the roll pin on others breaks the shifter rotates instead of shifting gears.

Richard and Garry may have something there.  It's all in how you read your 1st post.  If it is the regular shifter doughnut, you will not have to pull and open the transmission.

Is your regular shifter sloppy??  Can you shift between hi and low range??
