That looks like a combo of motor oil and water.

Have no Idea! It sure doesn’t look like any type of oil I’ve ever seen!

Make sure you get a new filter also....that filter is NO GOOD. Sheesh !!! I agree with Ed, looks like wate rand oil...see how it is separating ? Also look for metal shavings. A magnet will see more than your eyes.

NICE CLEAN RED FLUID ON YOUR DIPSTICK TUBE  !!!!!   SPINJIM

my 418 A uses motor oil....according to my manual, did you change yours over?   Very clean at any rate !! Nice:greetings-clappingyellow:

Love my 418 A's  too.... Both of them equally

My 418-C had ATF in it when I bought it, works fine so I have stayed with ATF. If I were to do a major overhaul I would go back 10 W 30.

I’m gonna try to find one.

I strongly urge you to buy the dipstick and tube on ebay.  It came off of a 417A, so it's going to work perfectly.   At only $15 and free shipping, it's not worth the trouble to jury rig something.  I've bought a few parts from Matt, and he always ships promptly.

It does not take much water to do that. Likely condensation that has developed over many cold/hot cycles.

If you let it sit in a clear container the water will separate and go to the bottom over a period of time and you will see how much there is.

The hydro pumps are great blenders.

It's "Wheel Horse 417-A transmission oil dipstick".   Make sure you put the dash in the 417-A, and look in Mower Parts & Accessories, under Home & Garden, not just in Mowers.

I changed the oil (10W-30) today in the Eaton 1100 transmission and used a NAPA (WIX) 1410 Trans filter. I also changed the oil in the KT17 Series 2 motor (SAE 30) and installed a new fuel filter. Is there an oil filter for the KT17 Series 2 motor? I didn’t see one. Thanks.

Kohler part # 52 050 02.    Filter located on back  or left side of engine, under the battery tray.

I looked everywhere and count find one on mine. I found a manual for the KT17 Series 2. I think the oil filter was an option.

I may of found an issue. I went to check the transmission level and there is a plug in it? Any ideas?

As well as the transmission dipstick / water issue I would also replace that fuel cap.

That one is like a funnel to get water into your gas.

I think you will be replacing your transmission fluid several times to get rid of all that bad stuff.

If it were me I would buy cheap 10w30 and cheap oil filters (fram PH2844 should fit)

Once the oil is clean you can upgrade to better oil and a NAPA 1410 filter.

@cleat Good advice on the gas cap. I just ordered a new 7” long one from Amazon.

Started getting some new things for my 417-A.  I put on a new gas cap with level indicator and new trans dipstick assembly.  Changed the trans oil and filter (changing for a second time today because there was so much bad oil the first time), KT17 motor oil, and fuel filter.  I’m looking for the part number for the KT17 Series 2 air filter. Anyone have that number? Thanks.

@gwest_ca Really appreciate the info. The filter housing that I’m putting the filter in is the series 2 deicing version. I should be able to find the size from the file though gave me. Thanks.
