There is a demystification guide in the manuals section that should help you.

Just throwing new wires at it won’t help if the basic troubleshooting isn’t done.

WHX??

Wiring on a 400 series is somewhat complicated so a wiring diagram is a must. If not we can get you one or check the manuals section. Need a little more info here,  does it crank over?

There are 2 pto switches and they are identical.

One powers the starter circuit and the other powers the ignition when the pto is OFF.

With the pto ON the seat switch powers the ignition.

Here are the wire locations in the switches.

Work on getting the key to make the starter work. When you get that see if you are getting voltage to the (+) coil terminal while cranking.

It is not complicated when you disregard the wires going to the idiot lights. They have no affect on the operation of the tractor. They are just a monitoring system.

Can some one chime in here regarding gluing the magnets back on.  am I thinking correctly that he needs to make sure he has the magnets arranged in North/South order, i.e. NS NS NS
