great comment and advice - much of it I've also passed on to my kids

took that St Thomas pic in Sept 2019

the churches in NYC are amazing entire stretch of Manhattan - from the southern tip near the WTC (Trinity Wall Street) - up to and past Columbia U (the massive St John the Devine)

also checked out some other churches in surrounding areas including Brooklyn ... Union Church (Pocantico Hills) with the artwork / stained glass by Chagall and  Matisse ...

Its amazing what a restoration does. There are details inside St. Patrick's Cathedral up on the ceiling that I was not even was aware existed even though being in there countless times. Once all the stone work was cleaned you just could not miss them. It was a total transformation. Also although not much, but there is some impressive woodwork at the altar area.

A point of interest related to my last reply. When St. John the Divine Cathedral was restored many years ago they actually brought stone carvers from France to address the stone work outside.I was at the time working across the street at Columbia University and had many conversations with some of them.

I am glad you have visited a lot of these places and appreciate it. Most people when they think of NYC think its all modern tall buildings but that could not be any further from what it actually is. There is so much history and diverse architecture here very unlike many other big cities. There are also countless impressive old private buildings with incredible architecture and details on their exterior. Many have incredible tops which unfortunately from the street below are very hard to see. However if one is on the top floors of another close by then it can be appreciated.

Thank you. Yes I agree it would be nice. That is what happens when you have a home with more rooms than what one knows what to do with. I pretty much have built something for every room in there with the exception of the kitchen which is still original to when they moved in. I know that it is in the plans for the near future. I haven't been approached for it yet but I know that I will be. It is something that I really will have to think about for as much as I want to do it it is a bit intimidating since it will be a massive undertaking. I am only one man working on these projects and some of them as much as I enjoy them are a bit taxing on me and my wife. Currently I am working on the cabinetry for their pool house or cabana. Compared to everything else in there it is a relatively small project.
