Will this fit on a C 125

Recommended Posts

Mickwhitt

Hi all,

My C125 came without a cutting deck, but I'd like to fit one some day.

This one is on ebay.

Will it be suitable, even to modify to a front mount?

I might be mistaken, but that looks like it mounts on a GT with vertical shaft.  If so, I don't know how many modifications are needed.  :eusa-think:

This is what you need, Mick. This is a 42" rear discharge. A 32" is the same as are side discharge decks. you'll need front and centre tach-o-matics and a mule drive.

BTW This deck hasn't got the cutter belt tension spring on.P1030283.JPG.1e934f63890dc7fa68b2fb6fcc0152c5.JPG

hello mick, i agree with stormin , this picture , even though its missing the spindle belt cover , is everything your picture is not. the lift frame on this is what you want to easily hook up on your model. mabey stormin knows where you might pick up such a deck. aside from a refresh , it would easily fit your horse, pete

The two spindle covers are missing because I had to make a new top for that deck. Hence the angle iron stiffners.

If I knew of another deck, I'd be grabbing it myself.  :D  I've been trying to find a decent side discharge for some time. The trouble over here, especially in the North, the grass is seldom dry. Some people just neglect to clean the underneath of decks after use and then the decks rot out. I take mine off after every mowing session and give it a good clean down.

I have two rusted out decks with my horses, just to confirm that they all get abused!

There is a guy on eBay who rebuilds them and you reuse your fittings where possible. Tempted to get that done to one of them when I have spare cash for such luxuries.

stormin , i can understand the want of another deck, and your very good  deck maintenance of regularly dropping the deck for cleaning and drying , been doing that for years and have no moisture or rot issues . also very good talking to you an the other side of the pond , stay safe , pete

I've seen those re-pro' deck shells. Very well made and strong. Been thinking about one myself.

I've all the parts off a side discharge I got a couple of years back. Unfortunately the shell was bent. Something heavy must have run over it. Still, it was next to nowt.

Maybe get a hold of @Skipper.  He is in Denmark, I think, but at least you can drive there...may not be too much to ship either.  :occasion-xmas:

That's an Idea, Steve. But I think shipping will be more than the cost of a re-pro' shell.

Though I'll pass on driving there. The Disco can go anywhere, but I draw the line at the North Sea. :D

You can get some good deals on Shiply for moving stuff around. I had guy from Croatia pick my motorhome up in Belgium and deliver it to Lockerbie where we were living. He had a Dodge RAM and a big trailer and the price was about half what any other carrier had quoted.

I think the new shell is around £700 for the wheelhorse, probably not bad value if you get another forty years out of it!

I don't know where you got that price, Dan. Are you sure that's just a shell and not a complete deck? Company in Lincoln quote £285 for a shell on the bay.

Yep, almost right, it was £650 + p&p for a heavy duty deck for the C125.

That is the same advert, the Lincoln company but it's just a generic price. Once you get a proper quote for you exact deck it changes.

At that price I'd be building my own. I did think of making one for the side discharge, but the old one went in the skip at the farm, I help out at now and then.

Yeah I agree, my jaw did drop as I was thinking it would be about £300.

How hard can building one be?

We have a welder and plasma cutter on the farm, it's just me that lacks the ability to use it. Going to get brave and start forcing myself to weld things or will never learn.

For a start, you need an old one for a template. When I made the replacement top, I cut off the old top which was used for positioning holes. Tools were a jigsaw, arc welder and electric drill.

Found an early topic I did.

Thanks will have a read of that later.

I have two identical decks so fittings etc  no problem at all. Can strip one down for the template and have an already built one as a guide to rebuilding 🙂

What you did with your deck seems the best option, will check mine and see if the sides are good on one, I know a guy that can weld if it's too much for me. He did all the farm welding anyway.

@Mickwhitt you can have whichever one is left over if it's any use to you for parts, I'm always driving up and down the country so could drop it off some day.

That would be fantastic. I can do any amount of modification or fabrication. Just need a unit to work from.

That's why I thought the ebay one might be a start.

You need the mounting hardware for a garden tractor.  That 36" deck looks the same and Wheel Horse didn't change anything they didn't have to.

Quite a few have modified the lawn tractor decks, but they had a similar garden tractor deck with all the parts needed to make it work.

No problem Mick, will arrange it next time I'm heading down your way. Like you say, it gives you something to work with 🙂

I will probably keep the darker looking one, but they both have all the fittings and I still use the lighter coloured one.

I think I also have a spare front pulley that you can have with it. Would mean just fabricating the casing and you would be ready to go. The one for you also needs the pulley guards making up as it didn't come with any.

We also got two sheep today so probably won't need the mower anyway 😁

Loving the sheep! Eco friendly mowing lol.

I watched the one on ebay and it ended at £137

Too much to take a punt on.
