Work Horse GT1848 refresh with Kohler

Recommended Posts

Goldnboy

So earlier I bought this GT1848  because  I really  liked the 300/400/500 series design but being in KS/MO they are kinda hard to come by. I had no motor, the frame cracked . Bought just before Corona  become known.....

So when I saw this I knew it was the perfect  candidate  for the K301 I had just setting.

Since my post earlier  I have came across lots of rust and neglect.

Had major issues with the dust cover in blocking the clutch/brake cam from rotating and PO disconnected  the brake rod.  And of course attempting  to cheat with a weak battery....20200321_110114.jpg.c9413667a4e41c7697877ab066e409c3.jpg

As for now I am waiting  for paint to dry to to mask off the front of hood to paint black. And for a hydraulic line to come in since now it was leaking not sure where but by the charge pump outlet. When I did my test run and set carb after making my own cables.

Looks better already!
Gt1848 with a K series, you dont say..? Hahah.

Looks like you still have the original wide rear wheels too, those arent too easy to find these days.

Them work horses are nice tractors! I've got a gt1800 repowered with a k341 and I absolutely love it! I use it for mowing 2.5 acres and snow blowing. My friends dad has one with the original 18 briggs on it and my 16 kohler seems to have alot more power!!!

I bought mine brand new in 1984 and restored it a few years ago after countless hours of use.

While I continue  to wait  on USPS to bring the transmission  gasket and hydraulic  hoses from Lowell, I applied  the remaining  decals.

Something about a Horse... like color doesn’t matter.  We all know it’s tough and built right.  But that looks slick!  Great work!

Looks fantastic!
Like many here I also run a “gray” Work Horse with a Kohler. Just a little Magnum 10 on mine.

Looking good I can’t wait to see it finished. There’s a several Work Horse guys here and I’m definitely one of them I’m always happy to see another one being restored!

I started out with an 84 Gt-1800 Hydro.  Sadly, the engine lost compression and I stashed it in what I thought was a safe place.  Ended up in the burn pit at grandads farm.  I salvaged it out for parts to swap onto my 312A

Did a little assembly  on the front while waiting for parts from Lowell  and fixing this nasty plug leaking! There was quite the discussion in another  thread. ...its an outty.

Here is the finished  result. Its raining  🌧  now so will do the test drive later... I found  a nice seat at my local farm and home store called "Feldmans", added rear lights front LED lights and had some trimming  to do to the belt guard (fits like the one on my B80 does now).

I did notice that I have the stuck hitch pin in the clevis hitch so this tractor will not get to try out the tiller. Guess that is why having more than one is acceptable.
