grinchsr 634 #1 Posted May 4, 2020 This trans is in my 518H. Both rear end fluids are at the proper level but when I am running down hill while I am cutting I get a fairly loud whine from the trans. Is this normal or is my pump unhappy? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Stepney 2,325 #2 Posted May 4, 2020 You can change the fluid but its a bit of a process.. never tried myself. Mine seemed to moan on inclines too. I had a 516-H. But all of m hydros of all models moan a bit, so it may just be normal. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Tuneup 1,433 #3 Posted May 10, 2020 I put my 516H to the test yesterday. Backyard is almost 45° to the house. I have to mow up and down. Hard on a hydro but that 16 is so sweet with the 42 SD and my 125 has ags that just sit and dig - needs weights. The turfs on the 16 are much better, though it's mostly dirt at this site. After this was about 75% complete, the Onan began surging somewhat. I haven't yet gotten that to run smoothly and finally realized I have to move the governor to the least active setting - solved it. I'm new to the Onans. BUT, after finishing with the 125, arrived to find oil on the driveway. The hydro decided to burp. Obviously too much oil in the reservoir - not anymore... Overheating? too much angle? Lesson maybe learned. I'll flush it as a precaution. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
