Jaydubz83 22 #1 Posted May 1, 2020 (edited) Mornin WH Folk Looking to expand my collection. Some of you may know I recently acquired a 94 416-8 w a 42 in rear discharge deck and 44 in 2 stage blower. Still being new to these, if you had the choice of either one of these below, which would you go after and why? What are some of the things one would need to look out for when going to look at them in person? How challenging would finding parts be? Are asking prices reasonable or is this a bit of room for negotiation (usually is but I dont look to insult anyone) Both are around 3 hrs from me so would require a truck rental so I'd like to have some info prior to securing a truck. Tell this greenhorn what ya think Annnnddd GO!!! Edited May 1, 2020 by nylyon Links to FB Marketplace removed per rules.
ebinmaine 67,271 #2 Posted May 1, 2020 The one that's listed as a 1972, 8, 4 speed is actually a 1973 but that's not really a big deal. If you don't plan on using it to mow or till I would get that one. They sip fuel. Run great. Plenty of power for the size. Parts of availability is fantastic. No worries there. Just as a point of interest I'm about 90 minutes south for you and I have a c100 project tractor listed. Does not run and drive right now but shouldn't take much.... Goldnboy 910 #4 Posted May 1, 2020 No name 8 4 speed, clean, easy to upgrade tires and other items.
SPINJIM 1,981 #5 Posted May 1, 2020 (edited) Some strange modifications on that Raider that I would avoid. The 1973 'no name' 8 looks much cleaner and well maintained. That would be my choice. Pricing tend to vary with location. In PA where WH are more available, $450 is little high. In some parts of the country, it would be a steal. If it runs and drives well, offer him $400. The plow adds some value, but is there a mowing deck? For heavy plowing, 8hp is a little light, but I would still buy it because it appears to be in great condition, and I like the 8's. Check the steering for excess play. Do the tires hold air well? Check for any oil leaks from engine or around the rear axle seals. Lee1977 6,642 #7 Posted May 1, 2020 If it were me I would keep looking. Too many changes to the Raider, as for a four speed I would look for a round hood.
SPINJIM 1,981 #8 Posted May 1, 2020 (edited) Also, the Raider looks like it has a plow on it that is made for a 'short frame' WH. That means that it won't pivot to the side without hitting the front wheels. The lever that controls the sideward pivot is wedged between the footrest and the belt guard, and would be hard to operate. The oversized gas tank, and the electric air fan on the engine don't impress me. Definitely the 8 between those two, but if you want it for plowing, I might look for something with a little more horsepower and an hydraulic lift for the plow. Achto 27,502 #9 Posted May 1, 2020 I could not open the links on my work computer but going by the comments above. The tractor having a plow with it mostly, brings me to one other point to check on the tractor. Check the plate on the rear of the frame where the transmission is bolted on. Look for cracks in the plate around the bolt holes. Some owners tend to slam into things (snow banks, dirt piles, etc.) with a plow & this will cause that plate to crack. I've had to repair a few of these plates. Not a hard job to do, but if it is cracked it may be a bargaining chip for you.

Our friend Kevin @pullstart send me the money the other day and he wants to see how many people it will take to get that tractor to Michigan. This could be interesting..... I don't have any other complete tractors to offer at this point but if you have a great sense of adventure I literally have enough parts to throw a b or c series together.

Great sense of adventure I do have. Sadly I have neither the aptitude, energy, patience or time. 80 hrs in front of 3 computer screens, screaming at idiotic colleagues and a girl who as much as my love for her is insatiable, really drain the energy out of a guy. On paper I'm 37 but physiologically, I'm about 80. My garage is already becoming a graveyard of projects that have gone to die. If I were so inclined, how much cabbage we talkin about? Yeah it looks good in red! I’m really hurting for that C100! I can’t live without it! Just pulling your leg, if you want dibs... by all means grab it up. I bought it from EB with neither of us knowing how to finish the transaction of transportation. I think I count 20 Wheel Horses in here... that one won’t break my heart if it doesn’t show up... but if you pass we’ll figure a way to pass it through a few states! 1
