I've been mulling this over near to the point of contusion

I've come to the undeniably correct conclusion

I would have made a wonderful replacement for Theodore Geisel

Unfortunately I can't, I've run out of diesel.

Took a virtual trip to the Köln Weihnachtsmarkt (Cologne Christmas Market) this morning!

FYI, the mugs you get coffee, gluvine or hot chocolate in you pay a deposit, so you can carry it around.  The deposit is conveniently the price of a souvenir! :handgestures-thumbupright:

Now thats a cup full! You need a steady hand to get that out of there.

Soent the morning cooking, the afternoon cleaning down my machines after turning all that cast iron and then an hour milling a new throttle shaft for Fred's carb. Nice bit of 1/4 inch sliver steel with M2.5 threads tapped in.

I will have a look at the throttle lever tomorrow.  I fancy making it from brass bar rather than pressed steel but we will see.

Today I fitted the flywheel and checked the static timing. At 20 thou points gap its not far off.

Started on the throttle arm, fabricating it from brass bar which I will silver solder onto the shaft.

Also made a brass Bush to support the top end of the shaft even more.

Torque wrench arrived in the post so flywheel is back in place.

Carb is rebuilt and nice and smooth in operation.

Just waiting for ball joints to make a new linkage.

All looking positive so far.

Good job as we had our first snow fall today. Nothing to worry about but we may be in for more.

first snow fall

I've seen a bunch of flurries here and there and we went hiking one day when there was three or four inches on the ground at the upper altitudes but tomorrow we're supposed to get our first local storm at home...

Could be fun...

Our snow fall is nothing compared to you guys!  But the country still grinds to a halt like its the first time we've ever seen the stuff.

Roads are jammed as no one can drive in it, shops get cleared out as everyone panic buys.

We used to have some great snow falls when I was younger, but were lucky to get much at all at low level.

Why did I build a snow plow remind me!

Well the latest update from the National Weather Service has us expecting a little over a foot between noon Saturday and 3 am Sunday.

We're approximately at the blue 🔵 above the arrow.

Mt Washington is the red area... That's 18 to 24" forecast.

Here we go folks!!!!

Same but the 1st real one is just so hard to swallow. Just means like 7 months b4 garage doors open with a nice warm breeze. Now it's just gonna be semi stail warm air. Oh well still have a project to help me forget about the white stuff.

This is our first snow fall for this winter....

No, come on,  look closely.

Past the football field, off into the distance. There, you see, right on the horizon.

Thats Wharncliffe edge about 11 miles away from us.

Just about on the doorstep of Derbyshire and the Peak District.

If we see snow up there we know its on the way to us.

Thanks Eric, that's the view from our front window across the valley.

Its one of the nicer spots in the area so we are very lucky.

I gave Fred a tentative try today and he fired up no problems.

My thought is that the exhaust may have been packed too tightly with glass wool so I have removed it. I will be making a new stack in due course anyway.

There's snow on the fells south of us. Snow on the Pennines and Cheviot Hills to the east. Snow on Scottish hills to the North. Got nowt here on the Solway Plain. :teasing-neener:

After a walk after lunch, back home and split three barrow loads of logs.

Not sure if it needs to be cut down a little or what.

Opinions please gents

Now don't be silly.

If it clears the doorway it's just about right.

Just be sure it's well supported.

Eric, the support post is pretty beefy and its on a length of flexible steel tube so hopefully not too much vibration.

I will be attempting to set up the carb tomorrow.  See if it runs better now the throttle shaft is nice and smooth.

The stack does look tall but you don't want fumes in your face. You need a rain flap for it.
