I've been debating getting them fixed vs just replacing the car, partly because it's so hard to find a body shop around here that will still do rust repairs. And she has been asking to get something that sits a little higher. On the way to Lowes we passed a local used lot that had an Escape that was newer than her car, but more miles. I don't care about high miles, but I don't do body work. Underside looked clean, rockers were solid, so nothing can be wrong with it that I can't fix, and we had to money in the bank to pay cash. 5

The pile you see has about a pickup load under it in a stump hole. They had also cleaned the shop gutters, raked and hauled leaves from around the shop and unloaded some pipe from my little trailer that I haven't been able to do. Those are some outstanding young men, Can I borrow them? 2 1

8ntruck 7,174 #7529 Posted December 29, 2024 We just finished up Christmas dinner #3. Started with an eye of round roast on Christmas. Christmas dinner #2 was roast beef sliders. Christmas dinner #3 tonight was a beef pot pie - an iron skillet sized one. Looks like Christmas dinner #4 is going to be French dip sandwiches. 1 1
ebinmaine 68,781 #7530 Posted December 29, 2024 More cleaning and cleaning up and cleaning out of the basement workshop space so we can get things out to the new workshop space in the barn. Got a fair amount of parts and supplies sorted and boxed. @peter lena will like this little "kit" I've set aside. Also got a new temporary carb bench set up so Trina can start disassembly on the big L shaped workbench. 5

Beap52 915 #7532 Posted January 2 Since it was was cool enough to double smoke some bacon, I smoked a couple of pounds. Also live trapped and took to a pesky squirrel to it's new digs in a timber. This squirrel has been climbing upon my newly re-roofed home and lifting hip shingles then slipping pecans under the tabs. I was helping hang new gutters and noticed that 3 or 4 hip shingles were not lying flat. Using a broom handle, when I raised the shingle, a pecan came rolling down. The squirrel found his plunder in a large wild pecan tree. I've found pecans stored away in the compost pile, garden and various places around the yard. I've been noticing the squirrel running from our house for the last few weeks so before he can do more damage I relocated it. 3
Achto 27,908 #7533 Posted Monday at 02:20 AM (edited) Spent the weekend prepping the new shop up grade. recently purchased a large gas powered air compressor and had to set up an enclosure for it. Day one, put the 4x9 shed together. This would not have taken all day had every single painted piece not been covered in protective plastic. Spent half of our assembly time pealing that crap off. Finished assembly on the second day and then it was time to move the compressor and shed to their new home. Wheel Horse parts came into play with moving the compressor. Slid a 3/4" bar through one of the fork pockets and installed some front wheels from one of my Horses on it. Then used some hose clamps to attach a bar to one of the handles. Then two of us could easily move the compressor into place. After the compressor was in position we slide the shed out to it. We lifted one end of the shed and slid it in to place. Compressor and enclosure in their new location and spiked down with 5/8" x 30" rebar. Even a little room left to store a few extras. A bit of plumbing left to do inside the shop and we will be ready to do some winter resto's. Edited Monday at 02:42 AM by Achto 3

I think the compressor makes more noise that the engine. Closest neighbor is better than 500yrds away, hopefully it's not too loud by their house. Still have to pipe the engine exhaust out of the shed. 1 1/4" o.d. pipe run through the wall with some rubber isolators will be on the menu next weekend. Then finish the plumbing and on to business.

You could always add a little insulation to the walls and ceiling if you need to quiet it down. If you have access to electricity, a ventilation fan might not be a bad idea. to dissipate heat. 5

While you have a fan the air flow may not travel well to cool the crankcase. You might want to run a test on crankcase temperatures with the generator under load both in and outside.
Bar Nuthin 720 #7540 Posted yesterday at 01:58 AM @lynnmor - I’ll have to look into that. Fortunately, I’ve only had to use it once for about 20 minutes since I installed it. But I definitely don’t want it to fail in the event I need it for an extended period of time.
8ntruck 7,174 #7541 Posted yesterday at 04:51 AM F.I.R.S.T. Robotics 2025 season kicked off Saturday. This season's game has some interesting features. Looks pretty straight forward, but, as in past games, there will be an interesting and challenging twist somewhere in the game. I am a mentor for the local high school robotics team competing in this program this year. We are a bigger target this year, as we were one of the four 2024 world champions. Weather has canceled school yesterday and today. In past years, snow days have taken critical time out of our build time. This year, we were able to meet and make much design and planning progress through virtual online meetings. Good start on our CAD (computer aided design) work too, as the students have online access to the school's CAD software from home. We expect to start fabricating parts in the next few days.
ebinmaine 68,781 #7542 Posted yesterday at 02:14 PM We swapped our old side by side fridge for an old top freezer type. The side by side will stay downstairs. Neither Trina or I our fans of the side by side setup because it puts serious limitations on the size of the items you can store. Top freezers are normally more efficient as well. I kind of wanted one that was a little bit narrower but this was an auction find and we have under $200 into it even after replacing the fan motor.

Lee1977 6,860 #7549 Posted yesterday at 09:33 PM (edited) I went to the mountains yesterday. (Jan. 7 2025) took a couple of pictures of the US 64 bridge at Batcave NC. They were working on 64 up towards Chimmney Rock and Lake Lure, we took high way 9 up to Black Mountain' There was five places on it that still had on one lane were the road was washed away. Compare the pictures with some from Google Maps of the same area. We pulled off 64 where there was enough area left to get off the Highway.
