Sparky-(Admin) 21,398 #6027 Posted August 28, 2023 Not today but yesterday I got in some “wind therapy” with my dad. He’s not ready to give up his two wheeler just yet at 81 years old. So we get out together a few times in the summer and fall for a ride. 120 miles today. We stopped up in Massachusetts and I whipped out my phone and he his folded paper map so we could plan out our route home . I gotta admit, it was easier to chose a route back towards home with his paper map. His is technically a scooter (no gears and a step thru design, just twist and go). But it’s an in-line twin cylinder fuel injected 650cc and it’s claimed that it will do 110 MPH !! So not your average scooter! I buzzed it up to 90 probably 6 years ago and I could tell it had plenty more MPH’s to go. Both machines are Suzukis… mine is also a 650cc. 2011 Suzuki VStrom 650 2008 Suzuki Bergman 650 1 4

I had already asked my neighbors if they minded me playing anything and they were cool with it. I came out of the shed and they were all dancing around their pool deck. I've had similar experiences with neighbors, especially with fireworks. Turns out I am not the only one who likes to watch 6" mortars. 1

Stormin 9,981 #6031 Posted August 31, 2023 Been over to my mates in Scotland. There's about 200 ash trees to come down due to ash dieback. Last year a chap who has a tree felling and training business, did a lot of branch lopping with trainees. He said he'd come back and clear away the brash. Needless to say he never did. So today I've been helping my mate and his wife clear away some of the brash. While they loaded the tractor and trailer I was in charge of the bonfire. I think a drew the short straw. Of course it turned out to be a nice hot sunny day. Not the best of days for feeding a bonfire. I usually leave around 3-30pm. I have a 54 mile drive and mostly in heavy traffic. By 3pm my mate asked if I was ready for going home. I said I was ready at lunch time. I was well and truly ready and for a nice shower by the time I got home at 4-45pm. I smell a bit sweeter now.

Only downside was the extra steps/tools needed to remove the ball carrier so I tended to leave it on and knock my shin regularly. On my new-to-me vehicle, I had a StealthHitch installed. I got both the ball hitch mount (for trailer towing) and the 2” receiver mount (for the utility carrier or bike rack). They go on (and lock) with no tools and there is no rattle or wiggle at all. I can recommend it unreservedly. 1

I find it is convenient and helps remind tailgaters that if they rear end me it will open the front end of their car up like a can of sardines...

Achto 27,716 #6039 Posted September 2, 2023 Had an old rusty David Bradley hood that I didn't know what to do with. Today I decided that I would try it out as a lamp shade. Don't look too bad, might find a shorter light for it though. 4

ebinmaine 68,132 #6043 Posted September 3, 2023 What did we do today? Well ... Last night... These pics are taken just a few minutes apart from the top of Burnt Meadow Mountain. We did a night hike yesterday. We've started and/or ended before dawn or dusk but never done the whole hike at night on purpose. The clouds kept the moon covered most of the time but it was still a cool experience. Very interesting to be in the forest at pitch dark. We saw a BUNCH of toads. A millipede that was FAR larger than anything we're accustomed to here in Maine. We heard whip-or-whil birds too. First time I've heard one of them in years. 2
rjg854 11,451 #6044 Posted September 3, 2023 Took a little trip for the Labor Day weekend. Been quite a few years since we visited the Falls. Now it's off to Highmark Stadium for the Chicken Wing Nationals at the home of the Buffalo Bills. 7

Mark has spent most of the summer there as project manager rebuilding the hydro turbines at the Robert Moses Hydro station. The hydro plant is on the US side across from the whirlpool. I did the R&D on the origonal turbines about 30 years ago. 4
Stormin 9,981 #6046 Posted September 3, 2023 Number 3 grandson came over this morning. After just having new soffits and facias, the next job was to de-moss the roof. So I put him to work. After 6hrs work. 5hrs for him and 2hrs for me. Still a bit to do, but he's coming in the morning to finish it before he goes to work for 2pm. I cleaned the bottom 3 rows and cleared up after he left. There'll be a full wheel barrow of moss by tomorrow. Back is to do another day, but that's not as bad. 3
