 Got the insurance claim on the Mazda sorted to my satisfaction  this morning. Then over to the body shop to see when they can do it. First week in January.

 This afternoon put up some of the Christmas lights.

After never having enough light at the lathe I thought tonight was a good time to rectify that.

 

With a piece of extention cord, a small chunk of conduit and a free light this is what happened.

 

Easily goes up and down and swings out of the way.

Locked my keys in the ignition of my truck at the orange box store today…. Luckily they borrowed me a 6’ plow stake and some dunnage boards to wedge my door open and pop the button.  Instead of questioning my intentions, the cart guy offered his advice that they sell the little hand pump air bladders in the store.  C’mon man, let me break into my truck like a true criminal!

This thing is just amazing. It's got transmission bands like an automatic. No less than three sets of planetary gears. A very ingenious shuttle shift not to mention how the mid/rear PTO works.  Now to figure out how every thing comes out. Very pleased how good every thing looks. Just a bit of rust on the high/low bull gears. The shifter sets in the round hole and is held in the top cover by a dog point similar to a horse. Only goes fore and aft. Two ranges ... four with the two speed axle.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Indeed a fascinating set of design decisions there.

The fore/aft shifter tightens one or the other of the two bands and hence engages one planetary set while the other free-wheels, right?

I'll be very curious to see how they incorporated reverse and get more details on the rear PTO.

Pretty much how it works. Top of last pic you can see rollers that operate tappets that tighten the bands. Just below that you see a wet clutch operated by a plate with fingers and a forcing cone that gets the whole thing spinning.

The gear to the far left operates the PTO shafts. One shaft goes all the way to the back for the rear one. Oddly there is no way to disengage it. Truly a live PTO! 

Even tho it has a rear PTO an implement was never offered to use it.

Red Square the cursor moves about on its own resulting in text all over the shop.

Anyone having a similar problem?

 

Not sure if the phone is broken or just a red square issue.

You used to be able to get a magnetic box to put the key in. Or make your own out of a small tin box with a magnet inside.

Sounds like you have a iPhone, mine updated last night.  Many updates cause issues for me, a complete shutdown and restart usually fixes it.

Nope no external clutch. Tractor speed is controlled by shift on the fly with the shifter and throttle. 

No the rear shifter is high neutral low and cannot be shifted on the fly. If I read the manual right it needs to be selected before the tractor is even started.

I ain't figured out how the reverse works. It's on the main shifter pulled all the way back moving the shift fork all the to the front.

The joy of driving a Vintage Truck. Mine I just got into the habit of locking with the key.

Our basement has been an untamed lion for 5 years.  With some hired help of a friend’s daughter, we are getting closer to some organization.  Imagine all those totes… plus three truckloads of Goodwill donations, plus numerous FB giveaways, plus random trash, with no racking or method.   The rack on the left is 12’ and the right is 8’6”.  
 

This house was built in 1992 or 1996… but there has never even been a power outlet down here.  Just a temporary plug on the pull cord lights.  I stuck one in on a dedicated 15a and it made me happy indeed.

it is tedious and frustrating, but an insulated basement (including the floor) makes a HUGE difference in comfort there and in the floor above. Plus it can save a lot of heating energy.

One advantage I had of framing all the walls was being able to put in plenty of outlets and run wiring for lighting. One of the smarter moves I made was to put outlets on the ceiling running to switches near the stairway. I've used LED tube lights from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (~$15 each) that now just plug in and as I leave the basement I can turn them all off from the same place.
