My understanding is that the Cass and Durbin railroads are separate entities, but they work and function closely together, with the machine shop at Cass doing all the work for the Durbin trains. Theyre still working on joining the cass and durbin lines. The flood of '85 took out a lot of track up and down the greenbiar river. My great aunt ran the boarding house at cass.

Theres also trains out of belington and the cheat mountain salamander out of elkins.

  Number 3 grandson called round yesterday. He's really into fitness training as he's hoping to join the marines when his apprenticeship is finished. He does quite a bit of mountain biking and said he would like a road bike. We got my 30yr old touring bike out, blew the tyres up and he went for a spin on it.

 Today I thought I'd have a ride round the block, about 3 miles. Do my ailing legs good thought I. Now I've not ridden the bike for about 3yrs and it showed when I got back. My legs felt a bit like I'd just disembarked from a sail ship on a rough sea.

Nothing wrong with that at all Norm.

 

Make sure you're taking in 60 to 90 g of protein per day for 3 days and then go do the same ride and report back...

Finished up the power dump cart today got decals in and painted the rims. Now just got to make a tailgate someday down the road. Also got my red square stickers in and added one to my 314!

One of our nieces got married last weekend in a small town in the eastern upper peninsula of Michigan.   We haven't travelled in that area for a number of decades, so we spent a couple of extra days traveling in the area. Checked out some rustic campgrounds along the northern shore of Lake Michigan for future trailer trip destinations, and we went up to Sault Ste Marie and visited the Valley Camp museum ore freighter. Brought home 1/2 dozen frozen Leito's pastes too.

 

About 10 miles north of the bridge on I 75, we saw a 'horse ringer' on one of the roadside reflectors - this referrs to the cartoon of horses throwing shoes that was at the top of the forum that was posted by @AMC RULES recently.

Wanted to buy a spare tire for the trailer… Walmart had only tire and wheel… don’t need wheel… went to Tractor Supply, same story. I will try a local shop or Discount Tire.

 

Freshened up the red letters on the trailer tag…. I’ve started prepping for the Big Show !

Here these day‘s nobody does work with Horses on the Field so for me it‘s unusual that‘s why i‘m asking.

Yes, my neighbors are  Old Order Amish farmers.    They have six work horses to pull the equipment and one buggy horse.    They bought the 36 acre farm 5 years ago for $470,000 and in one year built a new farmhouse, a horse barn, a greenhouse, a guinea pig barn, and a building to house a large diesel powered air compressor and generator.

They work in the greenhouse during the winter growing  flower baskets in time for sale during the Easter to Mothers days.    Then grow  cantaloupe, cabbage, broccoli, pumpkin, and cauliflower plants for spring planting.    They also grow a lot of sweet corn that is seed planted in the fields.   Everything is grown under plastic and fed with fertilized soaker irrigation piping under the plastic.  The water on the entire 36 acre irrigation system is moved without a pump.   The two deep wells are pressurized with compressed air.  

I am amazed at the amount of food they are able to produce.   The cantaloupe crop alone will produce nearly 200,000 melons.

Exactly Randy, they don't waste a bit of daylight and in the heat of the harvest season, they will be picking melons and sweet corn all night with head lamps to get it trucked to the auction the next morning.

We visit the Lancaster area many times during year just to drive around and watch them by working in the fields. We love seeing their homes with the impeccably maintained gardens and grounds. Many times we stop on a high point for long periods of time just watching the beautifully planted fields specially the corn fields with their undulating patterns. If we were ever to move from here it would definitely be to that are to a place like @Ed Kennell ‘s right next to their fields. A truly incredible people from which we have much to learn.

We've been lucky enough in my area to have a fair sized community of Mennonites for quite a while and the last few years the Amish have been moving in as well.

The oak bed for my old truck is in fact, off of an Amish sawmill.

They have been in process of building what will be a Farmers Market at first and I'm super curious to see what it does in the winter.

This actually opens tomorrow.

 

One of the Mennonite families has had a market in the next town up for several years now. They sell all kinds of inexpensive foods and when fresh fruits and veggies are in season, those. Trina and her mom do a fair amount of shopping there in the warmer weather.

I have a better than average appreciation for that sort of work ethic because of the BBT that I live with.

 

That girl Is On The go from 7:00 or 9:00 in the morning depending on coffee fill up until 7:00 or 9:00 in the evening. Every day.

 

The slow and steady transformation of the various parts of my home and acreage has been absolutely amazing. I appreciate every single second of the things she's done.
