I find a face shield better than goggles, Mick. But I do wear glasses. Though I do need to learn to keep bare arms away from hot exhausts.

Certain careers or job activities a face shield is a requirement but you MUST use safety glasses under the shield. 

I'm not sure how the US government OSHA feels about shields but a lot of companies don't allow the use of a single shield as full eye protection.

 

That said, I do own two shields and no goggles.

I have more safety glasses round the shop, just can never find them.

Goggles will be better for grinding etc.

I have a face shield but that does allow stuff to fly in round the edges.

It's possible I've been known to have that problem myself. I got to a point where I'd had enough of that so I ordered a box of a dozen, i believe.

I also got a half a dozen that are bifocals with a slight magnification for reading.

 

Now I usually keep at least a couple pair in each of the two workshops and also have Bunches of spares still sitting in the box.

Started today with the great gas hunt that is happening on the east coast . Only waited 3 minutes ,the local WAWA was selling 93 octane for the same price of 87 octane ( they were out ) {2.859 USD } per gallon. Up from 2.769 last week. Then off to the cigarette store for smokes and Lotto tickets and scratchers. Then to big blue box store to buy weed eater  . Picked up a Kobal cordless for $159.00 plus tax. Got home and realized I forgot to stop at local shop to ask if the want to tackle POS El Camino A/C unit. Checked it yesterday clutch not working, getting power. Hope it is not compressor. SWMBO was happy about high test gas at regular price. Then she won $27.00 on scratchers which I paid $14.00 , not sure how it became her money but it always does. Put weed eater together , worked on replacing ceiling light in shed , finished that , battery fully charged , trimmed everything . Now sitting on my butt drinking cup of coffee thinking about how I can pull @squonk 's chain before day is over.

Waldo I believe your compressor is controlled by the ECM. It sees the signal and grounds the circuit. If a pressure switch isn't closed (Low Charge) for example it will not close the circuit.

Ripped down about 500 pounds of English Ivy from the garage walls.  Hate that stuff!

 

Fired up Big Bertha the 18 HP (Briggs Twin) 4000 PSI pressure washer and burned about 2 gallons of fuel pressure washing all the tendrils off.  Took most of several layers of paint off.

 

Went to the box store for some masonry paint... was going to pay $26 a gallon (need 2 gallons) but I took a quick look at the 'mistake' rack and serendipity struck me in the face! 

 

There on the rack for NINE BUCKS EACH were TWO gallons of durn near the same color I had picked out of the exact same masonry paint I was gonna buy!   Now I have an extra $30 burning a hole in my pocket!   It's SAM ADAMS TIME!

 

Need to do a little patching on the stucco, but should be ready to paint by the weekend.  Hope the weather holds up!

Well lets see...worked on that new headlight bezel today at work, got home, ate pizza, ran down to the lab and added screws to a batch if ornaments, started a new batch of regular ornaments, went and weedeated a patch of the dog yard...ate more pizza lol

I’m working on building some fence gates for a customer/friend.  He was quoted $2,000 for two gates 10’x8’ and no cross piece or support.  I’m adding a cross and an 8” caster on each of them.

 

I have a respirator on during grinding and welding, along with excessive argon at the welder and a fan moving air away from me with all the shop doors open.

Had a steady day today, did a couple of job visits to see if I could help out a few older folk with some repairs.

Also did a few more bits around the back door project.

My new goggles and ear defenders arrived so I got our Charlie to test them out for me...

  Went to my mate Dunc's place over in Scotland. He phoned last night for a hand in felling a couple of trees. Actually there were three. Big Cyprus Leylandi.

  But my first job was to stop the new front grill from falling of his MF tractor. The one that took off down hill on it's own. Simple job. Just added an extra washer to the LH side retaining pin.

   On to the trees and as Dunc wielded the chainsaw, I pulled on a rope to finally help them to fall where we wanted them. All the branches and brash was cut off the trunks and we filled and emptied his 10' x 8' trailer three times. A good five hot hours work. Yes! Hot! Sun was out all morning. 

  Fiona, his better half was well pleased. Brownie points all round.

It's a Lawnboy.  Gold Series, 2 cycle.  I think it's a 94 year.  It's a beast of a walk behind mower.

Actually, it was a couple of days ago, I rented a Witch Witch SK800, and used it to pluck the limestone caps off of the porch railing at my 'alternate location'.  The slab on the porch is going bad, and the brick veneer on the front of the house, the brick railings, and brick columns holding the porch roof up are all on top of the slab.  Got to clear the slab to get a new one poured.

 

While I had the machine, I also buried some railroad ties next to and flush with the driveway to give it a tad more width.  Fun machine to run, and beats the heck out of a shovel and wheelbarrow!

 

 

The caps I pulled off weighed between 300 and about 800 pounds.

Good strong job but pardon me if I seem a bit thick. If that's a receiver hitch, where're the holes for the retaining pin?
