Had a fun time doing a little wrenching with my kiddos.  Claudia likes mechanical things and Judge was handy so I asked them if they would be willing to help me change the alternator on the old Goat. this one is about 20 years old and has been making a lot of noise lately...before it left me stranded somewhere, I decided to be proactive and exchange it for a new 100amp PowerMaster.  

Claudia took turns with Judge doing the wrenching and we changed it out in about an hour.  Momma had gotten up early on call to help fix a broken hip of someone at the hospital and had laid down to take a nap when she returned home.  So, we took that time to get this project done.  I’m so thankful that my kids were willing to do this project with me!

OK, so today was door day, I had cut the bricks yesterday but finally knocked the hole out this morning.

The door arrived and with a bit of jiggery pokery I managed to get the thing in. That was between a couple of thunderstorms.

Just got to seal around the frame when the expanding foam has cured and we are done.

Oh, apart from the step obviously.

Did some flower bed weeding with Mrs., modeled up a new end cap for her weedeater, that is printing now, and came up with a nice little key hook!

From what I understand we have to put the old oil back in the original containers and return it with the receipt...

IF the store takes it. 

NYS requires licensed service stations to take used oil, but they have the right to refuse if it is obviously contaminated or in an unsafe container. After checking with my local place, he's happy to take it in used milk jugs which he recycles after dumping the oil into his collection tank.

I should point out that he gets paid for the used oil!

Spent the morning before heading to work rewiring my new Case 644.

Set a new record for hackery.. what not with the headlight wire being slit and shoved over the start terminal on the key, then hooked right to the starter post of the solenoid.. man, yknow it turned over awful slow..

Switch was also loose.. perhaps on account of being in the hole where the direction selector lever belongs.. which is .. gone?

I went to grab it since it was loose, and hence found that severely stressed piece of wiring art.

There was also a literal section of Christmas tree light cord in another piece.. as well as a total lack of voltage regulator, with various wires arcing off of everything in site. 

How it never caught fire is beyond me, what with all the oil leaks..

 

Slow progress, it was owned by an utter blockhead.. but we will manage. Not too many of these left in New England it seems.

Honestly I'd have settled for a Suburban or a WH loader.. this old thing showed up right up the street for me at a fraction of the cost for a 'project' WH loader.. cant complain at all, but it has had some .. interesting changes through it's life. 

So they claim, it will lift 810lbs. Or more..

Has the rear 3pt, weight box, rototiller, and the deck.. which apparently is specific to a 6xx, won't work on a 4xx. 

Apparently a 'PTO' system was also less than common for a 644.. has it all. Apparently he scrapped the snow blower..

Today, I cleaned out a carb of a family member's pushmower. It's a Honda. My experience with Honda is that they never break, but have some carb issues. the issue I have now (after cleaning he carb)  is that it runs a higher rpm with choke on, then with no choke. Does this means it runs lean?

Mine always did that too.. had an old cast aluminum one from the 80's. Simply because the further you pushed the throttle forward to turn on the choke, you still added pressure to the governor spring.

Yes, or it's out of adjustment.  If it's the autochoke model I would see if the governor linkage is right and a spring isn't in the wrong place or hole.  If it's the older manual throttle version it may be out of adjustment on the cable, where your choke setting is actually the high run setting.  Kinda hard to know for sure without seeing and it's harder to figure out sometimes if the person took a go at it themselves and didn't put it back together right.

Thanks, is a 80's model i believe, got to put everything back in adjustment, I do see the trottle getting more open, but choke gets closed.

Worked some more on the rear hitch for the 1257Heavy, got to clean up few welds and then make the mounts to the transmission pin then should be good to go.

Ran a few errands. Set an appointment for the pigs to go to freezer camp, picked up my trimmer that some dummy forgot to run dry last fall, dealt with the county on tax assessment and dropped by harbor freight. I'm pretty much wore out. 🤣

@posifour11You had to mention trimmer. . Knowing that weeds were growing tall and taking over. Purchased e3 plug , mixed up a gallon of gas. Cleaned up the outside of trimmer. Gave it a yank .Then probably 15 more no start. Plug getting spark gas flowing to carb. Let me and trimmer rest for a while. After pulling my 73 old guts out, made an executive decision ( wife was napping)  going  to blue box store tomorrow and buy a battery operated unit. I'll worry about said wife's look tomorrow. Any one have a suggestion on cordless unit ?

I went to the orange store and got the cheapest gas trimmer they had. I knew that the other would take a long time to get fixed this time of year. I'll use the cheapie for regular trimming and leave the saw blade on the big one. I have a cordless Ryobi I inherited from my dad, but it is a little too light duty for me.

Well on the subject of weedeaters...finished up prinding the new string cap for mrs battery powered weedeater, came home to a GOOD finished hitching post top, revisited my freeze dryer plans in athother thread while at work(I love my job!) Annnd..thats about it fixin to catch up the news and chill!

Caught a groundhog that was making a home under the neighbors deck while they are at their place in FLA. 

Made some wood sideboard for the WH truck. 

Worked on shelving in the new WH barn.

Planted tulips for the and used the FEL on the xi

Scored a baseball game 

Hooked up the other neighbor with diesel motor oil after he drained it and realized he only had one quart of new oil!

Wife and I checked into a ritzy hotel yesterday for our anniversary. Ended up being way nicer than anticipated.

 

Has a heck of a view. Can easily see Chicago 40 some miles away.

Currently sat in our A&E department,  our version of you ER.

Got something in my eye while cutting wood overhead with a jigsaw. Thought it was sawdust but its stuck there overnight so ot could be steel.

I was wearing safety glasses but it must have got round the sides, placed an order for goggles while I'm waiting.
