Stormin 9,981 #227 Posted June 10, 2020 Spent yesterday up at the farm replacing purlins on the back wall of the silage pits. Well rotted after 30+ yrs. Also made some bracketry for a couple of sleepers on top of the wall between the back doors. Hopefully prevent the wall boards getting damaged with the buck rake. Today's a wash out. Stormin 9,981 #229 Posted June 11, 2020 Committed murder. For weeks now we've been pestered with a couple of big crows and a pair of magpies. Pinch the scraps and old bread put out for the birds and try to raid the small birds nest boxes. We have a big willow tree out by the pond, about 30ft high. I noticed what could be a nest just shy of the top. This morning I spotted what could be something in it. Later in the morning, from the kitchen window I saw two crows and two magpies having a barney over the nest. Grabbing one of my shotguns and a couple of cartridges, I quietly went outside, unnoticed by the squabbling birds. BANG! BANG! Result? Perforated nest and whatever was in there. One definitely demised crow lying in the pond reeds. Only seen one magpie since. D_Mac 8,607 #235 Posted June 11, 2020 I had to take my truck in for repairs today..... wonder whats this is all going to cost...... ughhhhh. Turned the key the other day and nothing. All day I tried it... nothing.... check battery connections.... checked starter connections ... nothing. Tried it again in the evening and it fired right up. I dont want to get stranded anywhere so I figure I take to the shop. I get there and they asked if I had an appointment. I said no. They said well maybe they can get it in Wednesday. Today is Thursday. What happened to the days you bring your vehicle in one day its fixed the next. So I had to name drop and they said they would see what they could do. Mickwhitt 4,607 #236 Posted June 12, 2020 Spent a wet day tinkering in the shop. Finished the PTO brake and just need to see how it performs when I can get Fred outside. Also ordered a load of bits to have a go at making my own exhaust silencer. Hoping that I can come up with something that will make Fred a bit quieter and move the exhaust outlet down lower. I will see what develops as I get underway. I'm going to look at making a threaded end plate for the silencer box so that I can dismantle it and experiment with filling materials etc. Watch this space. Mickwhitt 4,607 #238 Posted June 14, 2020 I did a little more work on the PTO brake... it fits fine and set at the 12 thou gap in the manual it works just great. Stormin 9,981 #242 Posted June 14, 2020 Done a bit of clearing up for a neighbour. Cut a some sieves down a couple of weeks ago, with the C-81 and finger bar. Today my neighbour and I gathered them up ready to burn. Thought I'd give the Black Horse some exercise, as it hadn't been run for a couple of months at least. Was rather reluctant to start, but eventually we went next door with trailer in tow. In the field the Black Horse started acting up. Would run and idle fine, but if shut down would be hesitant to restart. Took it home and got the Sears/Roper for trailer duty. Lost count of the trailer loads, but quite a few.
