I have two rolling stools and they have made it possible to have (mostly) pain free extended sessions in the shop. Friendly warning, however: these are both absolutely magnetic to shop visitors, especially grandchildren. I have to constantly remind them that it is my shop so I have first dibs on seating! Often I’ll get up to get a tool, a part, or some supplies and turn around to find the stool I just vacated occupied. For now I'll try a spare chair or something.

WHX?? 49,953 #7731 Posted yesterday at 05:20 PM Installed a new shop door opener. Only took three days between feeling like crap and teaching the recliner a lesson. This is a great opener so far knock on wood. Liftmaster LJ8900W with wifi and battery backup. Little more $$ than a conventional chain drive but worth it I think. Replaced a 36 yo Moore o matic screw drive that just plain wore out. Door is a 18x8 that's fairly heavy. May try and repair it (again) and use it on a very light door on the she shed.

The short stool has a tray as its base but I don’t use it often since it requires bending way over and, invariably, the tool/part I wanted was the farthest away! Ed mentioned a while back that he has a clamp on tray for his short stool and I might give one of those a try! I do sometimes use a small (14x20) movable “side” table for tools and parts to keep them off the main bench.

I have 8 garage doors and only one is compatible with this opener. The one door with the Liftmaster is quieter and smoother, I wish they were on all of them. On the other hand, there is one door with a Genie screwdrive that has been operating multiple times a day for the past 50 years. I am holding down my recliner feeling like crap as well, some kind of bad cold I guess.

When I put tools down amid what I’m working on, I end up hunting and juggling. Making myself put it on the side means it’s easier (quicker?) to find. Also, since on only have one each of many tools, it is easier to keep track across several projects without putting everything away after each work session. So maybe memory crutch is the better description? 😉

I raked up the plastic from the recent deer kill and didn't have the gumption to continue with a planned cutting of a cherry blow down. Maybe tomorrow, all I will do is clear the trail and cut the tree free from the stump to stop the sap from rising. Small steps, don't want to get worse.

It's pretty heavy duty for such a price competitive piece. I also have an ancient (to me) Parker. It'll be mounted somewhere out in the new workshop as well. Here's a thread on that one. Beap52 1,043 #7746 Posted 22 hours ago Cut down an ash tree I planted 20 years ago. Ash borers got to it . There's a couple of sprouts coming up. I asked local nursery about leaving them or planting new tree. He said leave them. He said they quit selling ash trees 15 years ago but there's a belief that the borers have done their damage and moved on so they are considering selling ash again. (He may have mentioned that there are some varieties of ash that are borer resistant.) They are such a slow growing tree I'll be 6 feet under before it's 8 feet tall.
Wayne0 743 #7747 Posted 22 hours ago Never heard of a Parker, but that's a beast for sure! I have a big Columbia that was Granddads. Dad had a big a$$ vice which my nephew has now. I don't know the make, but that sukker would open up to 10" with 5" jaws. Had to weigh 25-30 lbs. I wish I had taken it, but I was being the "nice guy". 1

The one wood you can burn half green. Some firewood sellers ask for it. When the hard wood is sold out, you can always sell Ash. Up here, in the north east, the Indians (oops, Native Americans) wove baskets from Ash. Some still do.

squonk 41,964 #7750 Posted 1 hour ago I sold a vice about the size of Ed Dog's to a college maintenance shop. Brandy new when I worked at Napa. I remember we needed a hand cart and a couple of guys to move it. They solved the issue of moving it easily. They brought it back the next day in 2 pieces and I don't mean they wound it all the way out and took it apart. They split the casting in 2. I don't remember how they did it but it must have been a big hammer! 1
