Stone is in the plans.  Right now the driveway is more of a Jeep trail.  I've got to widen it and do some grading for smoothness and water run off before getting stone.

 

Planning on putting a layer of 4 minus down then some 3/4" crusher run on top of that.

 

With any sort of luck, I'll get EJ the 8N running this week and start in on the grading.  We will see if the weather will allow that.

Tried out my new HF 10 ton log splitter... Very pleased...

 

 

Supposed to only handle around 8" logs... well, like fishing, deer racks, etc... 8" is a bit small for this thing... 

 

Good quality, great design, handles store inside it, steel wheels... all good.

 

I have only occasional need for it. Campfire use only. Wouldn't want to use it if i were running a heating system...

Looks like that little splitter works pretty well. I'd be curious to see what size diameter piece of hardwood it would do.

. I got EJ the 8N running yesterday and delivered to our 20 acre wood.  The sun was setting when I unloaded the tractor yesterday. 

 

Today, we had a bunch of errands to run and didn't get out to the property until about 3pm.  I got the grader blade off from on top of the brush hog and moved to a parking spot at the end of the drive.  Had some rain last night, so there was no way I was going to take the truck into the woods.  The plan was to transfer some boxes contain a camp kitchen back into the woods on top of the brush hog.  Ran out of daylight, discovered that one of the hitch pins for the 3 point was missing and that the front tires need air - a light rain started, too.  We will see what the weather does to orrow.

 

We are planning to have our family Thanksgiving dinner in the woods on Saturday this year - hence the camp kitchen.

I made up and hung new barn doors after rebuilding and reinforcing the track. The old setup was literally falling apart.

Got to visit Jaxon today.  

 

Spent several hours puttering in the barn and workshop. I put three more sets of shelves in. We picked up a new Dewalt saw & stand, and Ridgid vacuum a few weeks ago. Got to use that today. Very impressed.

I shooted a deer.

 

Then I turned to look behind me.

 

Then I turned back around and there was another deer standing there, so I shooted it too.

 

Skinned them, quartered them, and drove 4 hours home.

I was up at 6 to go to the family hunting camp for the second to last time for the season for a couple hours for a Hunters Breakfast. The plan is we are supposed to go hunt, most just eat. Then back home to putter around the house, push up my brothers manure pile with the 308, and look for a barn shovel I have that magically disappeared in my basement. more puttering and now I'm doing this. Back to the grind tomorrow.

We used our camp kitchen that we set up yesterday for our family Thanksgiving today.  Everything  turned out as it should - on time, even!  We got back to the hotel and made notes on what went well and what can be improved for next year.

 

We have not gotten together with both of our sons and their families for a couple of years.  Nice time had by all.  My oldest son and his wife got some time to do some exploring in our 20 acre wood while the bird was roasting.  This is the first time they have had that opportunity.

Good looking kid right there.

I have had my DeWalt saw and stand for about 20 years now.

It is one of my favorite tools and has done a lot of work over the years.

 

Here it is being used to cut vinyl siding for my old garage a few years ago.

I'm really hoping this saw is a long term piece of equipment for us as well.  

I can honestly say at least 90% of the builders around here use one for anything from rough framing to medium grade trim work.  

 

I looked at reviews and history with every brand and model I could find. 

The DeWalt DWS779 & 780 just stands out above the rest of everything below about $800. 

Get above a grand and you're into commercial tool territory and obvious great differences in price and quality. 

 

The BBT and I have been trying to appreciate the VALUE behind everything for a few years. This saw was a couple hundred dollars more than the average "retail homeowner occasional use" grade piece but we believe/hope  it'll pay off in the long term. 

 

I went with the DWS780 because of the LED light cutting shadow. That's extremely handy. 

 

My only downside after some use is the dust collection.... isn't great.  

 

I've ordered an aftermarket add on to help with that.

Yes, that is why my saw stand is on wheels.

I pull the saw outside to use it then blow it off before it comes back in.

The dust bag fills up quite quickly so it is sort of working.

 

If you think it gets dusty cutting wood. Plastic siding is much worse.

 

I also used the saw with a standard carbide blade, same one I used to cut the pressure treated floor joists for the deck to cut the aluminum railings as required during construction.

YES! 

 

The bottom holders for the shelves I'm installing are old scraps of vinyl board. 

Very similar product in handling.

Plastic has static so it sticks much more strongly than wood sawdust.

Excellent and productive day today.  

Started out with a beautiful sunrise over the barn. 

 

 

 

As usual the BBT has been running around full tilt doing 647 things. 

 

I got a Kohler #30 carb put together for my own 1974 C160-8 Cinnamon Horse.  

 

 

We've been spending more time getting the new workshop space ready and also more time organizing the basement for remodel into the Momma apartment.  

Trina's been shuffling shelves and moving things around for that.  

She also made up an improved design door knob for the workshop.  

 

Friday morning I got to see @Handy Don and picked up these vehicle skates. 

 

They're now under the 1986 F250 in the barn main room. 

 

 

Because of these rollers I was able to swing the truck around fore to aft and also sideways a few feet to make more space on the left.  

 

Moving this big beast around is certainly not easy even on skates. But now... it's possible.  

 

I found that using a large crowbar under the skates made a fair amount of difference.

Spent the day out in our 20 acre wood.  Almost have the camp kitchen picked up and packed away.  I got the HF garage tent put together, so EJ the 8N will have some shelter this winter.  Think I'll run some ropes from the eves frame tubes under the tractor to the eves tube on the opposite side to help hold the tent in place.  Don't know what kind of winds we will see this winter.  A little extra hold down won't hurt.

Spent a bit of time in our woods this morning.  Packed the rest of the camp kitchen into the storage shed, and put the earthscrew type anchors into the ground at the corners of the garage tent.  2 of them hit something hard (rocks?) about 3" above where they need to be, so only 2 corners are tied down.  Fixed that by tieing the eves pipes of the tent to the tractor.

 

Used EJ the 8N to move the rest of the heavy items down to the truck, then backed him into the garage tent.  The tent is 17' long.  EJ is also 17' long from the front hitch on the grill guard to the tail wheel on the bush hog.  Drained his gas tank and put his battery into the truck to be in warm storage for the winter.

 

Was originally going to take the distributor and carb off for further refurbishing at home,  but we were out of time.  I'll get to them later.

My son go a used hot tub. So his brother and I got taped to help load it on the trailer. We disconnected my 4x8 trailer and  had rolled it to the far side of their back patio. Everything went smoothly with quite a bit of grunting.  My triple does no what to think about have something on it besides a tractor☺️

 

My wife (Nanny). Stayed home  and I found her rocking our new 4 week old grandson when I got home. He’s #7,  5 boys and 2 girls ages newborn to 8.
