Our road utility trailer has been knocking and rattling for awhile. 

Last trip in Sept down to @JCM 's for the Meet n Greet in N. Berwick things got real loud, real fast. Luckily I was almost literally across the street from my house.  

 

After some investipokingation I found that the spring eyelet bushings were worn right through. Also noticed the ball coupler was beyond worn to ain't usable anymore. 

 

Got most of the new parts. Now just need the time.  

 

This evening's fun was to begin removing the old coupler. I'm going from an OE 1970s welded on unit to a new bolt-on type. Increasing capacity. Also getting a quick attach. 

While there I'm changing the tongue jack from the standard screw down forever type to a quick drop/ then screw down type.

I know you have seen these hanging around at Mexican Restaurants, they aren't just decorations. Use them just like you would use fresh ones when cooking.

To hang dry jalapeño peppers, you can follow these steps:

   You can use thumbtacks to hang the string from the ceiling, or a coat hanger if you're short on space. Make sure the peppers aren't touching each other, as this can cause moisture to build up and lead to rot. 

    

    

Dried peppers are more potent than fresh peppers, and they can be used as a seasoning or in hot sauce recipes.

Thanks @953 nut  I've already dried a pile of Cheyanne peppers that I plan to use to make a powder. Guess I may have cheated a bit by using a dehydrator though.

 

Great idea to dry out some jalapenos as well as some poblanos, both of which I like to cook with.

Another thing we do it run them through the dehydrator then turn them to powder for seasoning. Lasts forever. Just make sure to label the zip locks on the heat level !

Mrs.W wanted small log store to sit by the rear door. She had seen a few on the interweb and price was crazy at a couple hundred quid. 

Said it needed to look like a sentry box type of thing. 

So I gave it a go with just scrap timber and a large ceramic tile for the roof material. 

Top section for kindling and the main compartment for small logs. Just needs a shelf popping in and it's done.

I spent some time cutting the rest of the coupler off the utility trailer. 

Also did some organizing in the barn. I put up a half sheet od pegboard where the electrical work desk is. 

 

Trina made up one of two doors for the new workshop space.

Moved the 854 up to the workshop/garage so it can undergo adaptation of its new-to-me dozer blade. The trickle charger said all was fine but when I tried to start it to get it up on the trailer the solenoid only gave the deathly stutter clicking. Jumped it from the car and off it went. I guess I got all that I could from that 10 yo battery! I left it running on the trailer for the ride across town (got a few strange looks) so I could get it up the steep driveway to the workshop before shutting it off!

 

Moved the Snapper down to the house for the fall mowing and leaf pickups.

Shopping and packing for a few days in Portsmouth. 

It's one of our main naval cities and ports so I'm excited to see the museums and such that are there.

HMS Victory is high on my list but the Mary Rose is our main attraction. 

Hoping to get plenty of photos but if anyone has any requests for images then just let me know. 

It's a 400 mile drive which for us is huge, I know that's practically in the neighbourhood for you guys in the US but for us it's a mighty long trip.

Will be driving down on Sunday and staying till Thursday.

 @Mickwhitt  been a long time since we were in england , but  definitely remember  the museums  , thought the tower of london  was incredible  , the armory sections , armored  elephants ! market gunners , the iron strap torture cages , dover castle , loved watching the grass cutting , down into the moats , maintenance people  wearing ICE CRAMPONS , being lowered into the  moats , they were all covered with grass . had a tour guide that was a graduate on the castle itself , amazing  guide. thought the  nessaseriam . on a sea facing wall , was interesting , basically an outdoor sit down toilet , cut into the top wall  rock , dozens of  rock cut  seats . did not like the warm beer , turned off a meal , liked being in a street elevator , hearing all the different languages ,   loved the tour buses , driving thru london , people sitting at a table eating a meal , lower level . that started our traveling, pete

Hi Peter.

A lot of the armaments moved to the Royal Armories in Leeds. Now that is a museum to enjoy, armoured elephant and all.

Portsmouth was a major naval base and still has a lot of naval connection now. 

London is not my favourite place, I've only been a couple of times and never really got on with it. Too big and impersonal for me. 

Sheffield is my nearest city and plenty big enough for me.

I went to the local automotive swap meet today.  Was pretty sparce.  Maybe 'cause it was the 1st day of a 2 day event.  Did not see anything that I needed to take home. 

 

I did see a 5.3 LS engine for $450.  Been considering one of those as a swap into my '72 C10.  Thought real hard about it, but finally decided that I have too many other projects to get to before making a swap in the truck.  Besides, there was no transmission - that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

 

I noticed three types of wheels for sale that I had as projects while I was working.  Kind of makes me feel old.

I do understand the appeal of modern free breathing power plants. 

 

But....

 

IMHO,  old cars and trucks should have CARBURETORS.  

 

Something about seeing a fuel injection computerized system just don't set right with me.

There are intake manifolds available for the LS that will mount a carb.  I am considering a Quadrajet 'cause I like the 'Quadrajet howl' when you mat the gas pedal.
