What did you do today?

:woohoo:       Back on line at last.     The storm this morning blew a large maple  tree across my road ripping all power and cable lines down.

No real damage here, just a bunch of small limbs.

We don't really do waffles over here, are they a sweet thing?  Chicken goes with most things lol.

Waffles are the same basic batter recipe as pancakes, but they are made in a special cooking iron that shapes them and makes the end product less dense.

Good to hear you guys weathered the weather alright. We had some flooding my way, but nothing bad as far as I have seen.

Wife went to visit her aunt for the weekend and told me to call her tonight and let her know if the basement flooded (ours won't) and I told her I'd have no idea because if the rain got that bad I was taking an air mattress and sleeping in the boat.

I do really appreciate when something is carefully planned out.... and it works.

Trina's been watching the morning sun over the garden to see what's being shaded at certain times of day.

We then fell trees accordingly.

The east side has needed a shade reduction for a while.

The tree I'm standing beside is the one needing to be felled.

IMG_20240811_140046.jpg.09838f1422f50716ccdc3e1be2ae6e8d.jpg

It was clearly leaning away from my body which is toward the shed and chicken coop.

We chained off and ran 2 hand winches the direction I'm pointing. I made my cutting mouth just to the left of my right leg so the tree could tend toward down hill.

We were VERY prepared for it to go exactly where we did not want but it went perfectly the correct direction.

We trimmed it up and sectioned the firewood.

Thanks!

I try to take a little extra time to aim even a small tree just right.

Usually we do pretty well.

Here's a pic from after Trina and her mom cleared the path of branches.

The momma is hiding there somewhere...

We felled,  bucked,  and trimmed a few small trees and 2 big ones. All are firewood but not for 2 years.

We took them down for AM garden sunlight.

VOLUME UP !! For this one:

After that we spent a few hours getting back into the truck rebuild.

Bed, rear fuel tank,  and trailer hitch removed.

Whilst I messed around with my C160-8 Tecumseh Horse a fair amount, Trina created an overhead wood rack for us to store the pine siding of the barn.

She also made a present for her friend and started a repaint on this yard ornament deer for my mom.

Did lots yesterday and today.  More over the next few days, too.  Can't really talk about it just yet, though.  Just leave you all in suspense.

Picked up a craftsman stand to put my media blaster on and added wheels. Now I just need to build a platform so I can reach it ;)

@PWL216 Maybe you don’t need a stand? I have an Econoline blaster that came on its own stand that I had to put up on 6x6’s because standing there for any length of time would kill my back.

The BBT and her mama spent some time today getting all the pine siding out of the firewood rack and organizing it by length in the overhead rack she built the other day.

The title of the thread is WHAT DID YOU DO TODAY?

We all know that BBT and her mom do all the work around your place, did you at least take the picture?             :ychain:

All I did was drive around in a box truck all day delivering building materials.

Went to harbor freight today for a few bits and bobs. I had to take a pee and right by the rest room that had their best ICON mechanics creeper with a purple tag at half price. The explanation of what was wrong with it ...open box. Perfect condition otherwise. I am confident that somehow I can manage without the owners manual.

Absolutely perfect and I really needed a new creeper. This one with the large outrigger wheels will roll over gravel. Game changer. Well built

Metal frame rated to 400 pounds.

Getting lucky lately as they delivered a new electric range with a dent that would be hidden and allowed two hundred dollars off

While putting my truck back together, I broke my outlet cover so I made a new one. Just need to stain it. Maybe get black outlets too.

To explain this one, we went to our Ky property last week and roughed out another 100 or 150 yards of driveway.  I rented this handy device:

20240824_103614.jpg.95f0637e8ea132368c8cf43990ee0189.jpg

Laid and filled over a culvert

20240824_103349.jpg.47d694c40d97c50c1ba60d8d33c9339b.jpg

And roughed out to the top of the next rise.  This view is from the end looking back towards the  county road.

20240824_103125.jpg.4f087a9fa8977e8d9e684635c124ec4b.jpg

Took down an oak tree in the process.  Trunk was about 10" diameter, the tree was 40 or 50' tall.  This is a picture of the stump, when I finally got it out - had a really long tap root.

20240824_102451.jpg.8c593f71830d5c775c8302f3b81ec04c.jpg

Learned some new things about our patch of woods.  We've not spent any time in them during August.  The chiggers and poison ivy were very active.  This is something we have not seen on other visits during the non summer months.  The chigger bites both my wife and I got make us look like we've come down with a case of the measles.

My original plan was to get my 8N out of storage and to use it to do some grading.  Didn't work out that way.  The battery was dead.  It cranked over easily with a jump pack on it, but no fire.  Would not even fire on a huff of brake cleaner.  Then I noticed that the wire that runs from the alternator to the battery was crisp.  That immediately brought the @Pullstart picture of a smoking tractor during a plow day to mind - only the 8N is a bigger tractor and it would be working in the woods.   To avoid burning our woods down, I decided that I could make another trip to Ky in the near future to rewire the 8N.
